I am attempting to install the OFT Steering block replacement that I got seveal months ago and am failing. I managed to get the seat off with the help of the forum, but now I am looking at the room in there to do this mod and wondering what the "trick" is to accomplishing this with the best results? There isn't much space in there to do this!
Anyone done this mod and can provide me with some help on how to do this?
Sure would be nice to get this put back together again today while the weather is warm!

You will likely need to remove more stuff. Start with the side panels that cover the gas tank.

Removing the tank or at lease moving it back but might as well remove it.

Remove the 2 bolts at the base of the tank. Unplug the fuel pump and fuel line from the top of the tank. On the front side of the tank there are a few hoses to remove. On the left there is the vent line ( you could also just remove the zip ties and leave the vent plugged in) and another hose a bit lower.

On the right side there is the gauge that needs to be unplugged. This should free it up.

what he said. gas tank panels, slide tank or remove it, & it will give you room.

Yeah it's a big job without instructions - couldn't believe I had to strip so much stuff off to install the block - I have a pic somewhere and it is not pretty. Take your time and make sure all the bolts and connectors go back where they belong and then enjoy your sense of accomplishment. At least you will have it done before the snow flies!

If you have pictures that would be great. I ordered my OFT block a couple of weeks ago so it should be here this week. I plan to install it this weekend.

Yep, all is well, that ends well.....
I stripped off the gas tank......with an eyebrow raised....and that made it really easy. It really wasn't too big of a deal to remove it either, it is just like the earlier posts said. Everything went back together again and NO leftover parts! The steering is really tight now.....I'm a happy camper.
Just take your time......

Did the kit make a big difference and where did it take the slop from? Like up down, keft right, or the amount of slop from when you turn the handle bars to the ski moving? Thinking of getting it for myself...

The block mod tightened up the leftover slop (side to side handlbar slop without skis moving) that was still there after I installed the lower steering linkage fix. The lower steering fix took out about 1/2 - 3/4 of the slop, but the block took out the rest. Can't wait to try it out this winter......

Thanks! Just what I hoped to hear...

This block takes out the back and forth and side to side of the upper steering column. The UpBushman kit takes out the rotational slop. My stock block isn't sloppy yet, but I have to change plugs in mine and my brother's Phazer so I think the block is going in both of them.

Here's two pics - sorry I don't have any step by step shots.

Nice - thanks! Wow with the gas tank off there is tons of room! :)

I just placed my order. When I get it I can make a step by step how-to on the installation.

I had no idea that the "hood" flipped forward like that on the VL. Learn something every day.
