Already have to fix this #$%&* wire on it.
Whats a good starting point to set this shock up for brisk trail riding? It has a Big Boy spring on it.
I weigh in at about 210lbs all suited up.

I’d be tempted to put your BOP multi-rate on it, start with compression soft and rebound 12-15 clicks out, adjust as needed.

Is that a first gen Apex skid? Man I kinda gave up on getting mine to my liking. Even with the hygear setup I wasn't happy. I finally settled on the 6.1 spring set for max ride height. Still thinking about a King Air for next year.

I really like my BoP red multi rate with the stock KYB. Have the RA set in the middle. Works well for me.
As for this Ohlins the adjustment on the back of the shock seems to turn forever. Is this normal or is it broke?

Yes, it should stop and I just confirmed mine will when turning in direction of (a); although mine was also recently serviced by @cannondale27. I have mine adjusted 15 clicks out from that position:

I was going to say the same thing Macheater as I remember hearing the same from Steve that if the rebound and/or compression adjustment dials do not click, the shock needs to be serviced.

This is correct, the nitrogen pressure works against the rebound clicker, so if it doesn’t click the shock has lost some of its nitrogen charge or shock oil and needs to be serviced.

If the shock doesn’t have the updated seal head part # in it you should do the update, let me know if you need the number.

I had rebuilt and re valved at HyGear . Team twisted springs installed and the shock has never been better . Fronts are also done as well with springs and re valve also. Sled behaves much better !

I am the OG owner and have lots of miles on it . The stock yellow spring , have had other yellow springs , just didn’t perform the way I ride , with a re valve .

Don’t you have an ‘08 Anniversary Ape? To the best of my knowledge every EC Ohlins delivered after ‘06 had the updated seal head.
Either way 5129-12 is the updated Ohlins part number for the newer style seal head. You cannot see this from the exterior of the shock, it must be broken down to gain access to the seal head itself which should have the part number on it.
