Think I finally got it. Got the ends crimped onto the ss braid -10 line(5/8). Put the fitting on the turbo, its a tight fit. They fitting that goes in the mag housing was abit too long, the 14mm thread side. Cut down, got threaded in. Ran line, had to adjust oil tank like the mcx kits do for the return oil pump. Hooked coolant like back up, put tank back on, fuel, primped carbs. It fired up, no smoke!. About week ago, got out garden shed, started up, smoked me out of the 12x16 building. Ran across yard to the shop to work on. Guess must have fix it. Now time to finish up other small projects on it.

Do you have any pictures of it? Is this only a problem on the Impulse apex or is it the same on the Impulse Nytro kit?
I will try to do pics, but me & cameras/computers dont compute that well. I have never seen a impulse nytro up close, so dont what it looks like under the plastic. Im not bashing Impulse, I think they build great stuff. But for me, the 3/8 drain line didnt work. All the parts are from Paul, header, oil drain set up. It does work for all the people I have talked to. Guess Im special, the 5/8 drain line has solved my problems. Took awhile to track down all the parts thou. Some from Cali, another from England suppier that are sold over here, fittings that came from Ontario, then install but this redneck Albertan. Guess will se what the winter brings if I dont sell it.
I have tried alot of different oil weights, never cured it. Bigger drain line fixed the problem. Just like on any diesel engine with a turbo, the drain line is 4 time bigger or more.

You get some miles on that bad boy yet Scott? How she working out? Shad
I went with 5/8 for the return line, supply is 1/4. Reason I used 5/8, its what we had @ work. Its used for semi air comp discharge line, so there is lots of it around. Yes I know that doesnt fit what I said about being 4 times bigger. Found that info in a hotrod turbo book yrs ago. My drain line is less than 2ft long, which doesnt really help with drainage. But thats what impulse does, I would have like to drain to the pto housing like when the sled used to have a left of center header. Now the exhaust dumps to that side, turbo sits way too low to have a drain box under it or drain to the valve cover. So this was the only way I could do it. I have pics in my build up in the garage section. Took sled out to valemount last weekend, snow wasnt very good first day. So kinda just putted around. Second day went closer to blueriver, close to a foot. Open it up couple times, ran it up to 18lbs. Never missed a beat, didnt take hood off in the 2 day ride. Happy with that. Now that its finally done, time to look for another project.

So what fitting did you use on the engine end. Banjo fitting or a 90? What JIC/AN size?
Got a fitting from atp turbos that has #10 jic that bolts onto the turbo, other end is #10 jic with 14mm(earls) that threads into the timing pointer. I drilled it out & had to shorted it abit, the 14mm end. The use #10 line(5/8) for drain. Worked great on 1 trip, hopefully the life of the sled now.
I was doing some oil research for myself. Was on garrett turbo's website. They dont list anything about that. But found, they want #3 or #4 oil supply line with a orfice if the oil pressure is over 45psi on a ball brg turbo. Then #10(5/8) drainline. I found these motors have 80psi when cold, not sure what there have once warm. But all my smoke issues are still gone. Road the sled 3 times out west now. Last time, drove it hard @ 18psi for 5days in chest deep snow. Worked great.

Sounds like you have it licked. Orifice size is usually .035" to .039" for the GT turbos.

I did the -10 oil return 5/8 ID, from heavy smoke to zero smoke in about an hour. Thanks RED
Your welcome, it took awhile for me to figure it out. Thats why this site is so great, all of us for a common goal, helping each other out. All day/everyday I look @ turbo's on highway trucks. The drain like is alot bigger than the pressure line. From trade school & turbo books I have, all say about a 4 to 1 ratio of drain to pressure lines. When my turbo was mounted "left of center" oil was able to drain back the valve cover with no issue. Once I went to impulse header, its momnet on top of tunnel. Draining of oil became my next hurtle. After some late nights in the shop & searching the internet for metric fittings to std thread I was set. Best part, I havent seen the IMPULSE header in awhile. Such a waste hiding in under shields. But dont have to have it welded each ride. That was worth it all along.
