Hey guys new to the 4 stroke world and this forum. Recently picked up a 13’ nytro with 1500km thats been sat a while so tonight I decided to change the fluids. Question is should the oil be checked when hot or cold? Ive searched but cant find a straight answer. I added 3.3L after oil was drained and new filter but when cold it reads just between L-H and after idleing for 10 min and checked right after it was way past the “H” mark. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the FaQ's at the top of this forum in Fluids there is a sticky about changing oil and checking level.

When you changed your oil, did you remove the little drain screw from the bottom of the engine crankcase as well? The engine itself will hold about a pint of oil, or .5 liters, even after draining the external tank. That would certainly contribute to your oil level reading too high.Hey guys new to the 4 stroke world and this forum. When you check engine oil level, read the dipstick without threading it into the tank. The oil level will read too high otherwise.
As far as checking hot or cold; I check mine cold. Checking hot might make a slight difference, but not to the extreme of what's mentioned above.
I hope this helps! By the way, the 1050 motor in your Nytro is a sweet mill!

Thanks Redbeard. Ive drained the tank and crank case. Ive always checked oil cold but on some threads it says check right after the sled has been running a while. Maybe im just being a little too anal, lol.

Just make sure to check oil without screwing in the dipstick.

I drain the tank and the cc.
Change out oil filter, and add 2.5 litres to tank, run for 15 secs or so, then add remaining .8 litres to tank. Run again...then check when cold.
8 yrs like this..8 oil changes..gotta love 4 strokes
