I put 300 miles on my sled last season and changed the oil and filter . should I change it again at 500 m lile the book says .
They say it Must be changed after 500 miles

I would change the oil because it's been a year, but you'll be fine with the same filter. But then again, filters are cheap.

I never really put it away last year due to it being in the dealers over the summer so I have just changed it , so to date it has 300 m and it has fresh oil and filter ready to go for this season( if it ever gets here )

So should I change it at 500 like the books says or will this last 200 m make a difference.
I assume that most of the debris in the oil would be there by 300 m wouldn't they ?

I would say, since the book says to change the oil and filter at 500 miles and then change it every 2000 miles or seasonally and the filter every 12000 miles.
If the oil and filter are new, you can go to 1500 - 2000 miles before having to change it again.
By then you might want to consider switching to Synthetic oil :D

I probably will switch then. All I need it the place to put any miles on this thing . I could get my boat out and go wakeboarding this week.

so, when you park it for the summer are you better to change the oil and park it, or change it before you run it in the fall and leave the old stuff in all summer?

I always change mine in the beginning of the season! I was taught in Auto Mechanics class that you should change your oil every 3 months or 3000 miles whichever comes first (this at the time applied to cars) The reason being that once petroleum based oil is run it starts to breakdown(chemical reactions)
So if you change it at the end of the season and then you start it up and run it, than you will have to change it again prior to running it for the new season
So once your engine is broken in, switch to a good synthetic oil and this rule of thumb with petroleum oil no longer applies :D You can now leave the Synthetic in for the whole season and than change it in the beginning of the new season. 8) The Synthetic oil has the ability to suspend harmful particles and its breakdown time is as much as 8 times that of the best petroleum based oil
