Oil change-no filter

why would you change the oil without changing the filter? I know Yamaha says the filter is good for something like 20,000 km but I just don't get it.The filter is going to be full of old, dirty oil and as soon as you start the sled it's going to be recirculated back through the system. You still have to go through all of the same steps, ie removing the lower panels, skid plate... why not just put a new filter in there??

But hey it's your sled...

Manual says...
Engine oil qty:
3.2L with oil filter replacement.
3.0L without filter replacement.
Total amount 3.9L
Try to figure that out.

Cause I only did 300miles last year. Don't really see the point of changing the filter when it's good for 20,000km. So end of season I'll do the filter change

I wouldn't change the oil for 300 miles either.

did you start it at all during the summer? Did it sit in a garage? If you were to do an oil only change I would think it would take pretty close to the same amount, the oil filter is small and probably doesn't hold that much...just drain the oil and fill it as if you did a full oil change. Realistically you are supposed to change the oil at the end of the season anyway...300kms probably won't make that much of a difference.

In garage all summer, maybe 3 start ups let it run about 10min each time running up the track a few times

100miles of the 300miles were at WOT

Worried about acid, water and junk in the oil

YUP - I'D BE CHANGING IT TO. I THINK W/OUT FILTER IT'S 3.0L ;)!

Change the filter as well. If your changing the oil, change the filter. Its only a few bucks and its good Preventative maintenance practice as well.

I would change the filter ..... wouldnt care about what a manual says

heres a thought how effective is new clean oil thru a old dirty filter????

Its like 40.00 bucks for the complete kit oil and filter on a 10,000 dollar sled id say thats pretty cheap insurance

i do a fresh oil change and new belt at the beginning of every season

jmo

jammie

The filter holds 0.2L. The sled will always hold and additional 0.6L. That being said not worried about the 0.2L in a 300mile filter

even tho you did put such little miles on why not just get a NEW oil filter with NEW oil, just sounds right to me
