does anyone use the oil gallery bolt when changing there oil? what a useless stupid spot to put that. looks like you would have to strip half the sled down to get to it?

It's much easier to pull the drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Just pull the cover off under the bulkhead and the bolt is right there. Be careful not to lose the copper washer that goes on the bolt.does anyone use the oil gallery bolt when changing there oil? what a useless stupid spot to put that. looks like you would have to strip half the sled down to get to it?

it's an allen head bolt or some folks refer to it as a button head bolt (6mm) located right underneath the motor and is accessed thru a small panel that is also held by 2 allen head bolts (these are 4mm I believe). remove that panel and you'll see the bigger allen head bolt, if you have a belly pan protector then you will have to remove it first to get to the panel. then you will have to drain your tank on the right side by removing the 12mm bolt underneath it. also has a small copper washer you will need to reuse.

on a 06 apex you will have about 4 bolts holding on the cover under the sled and yes every time as the motor holds almost a quart of oil that wont get changed if you dont if you think thats bad wait till you go to change the filter.

don't think it has anything to do with being a Canadian, that is what they are called on both sides of the border because you need an allen wrench to remove them. what would you call them?

Just throwing it out there, maybe the OP is referring to the location of the bolt rather than the type of bolt. If memory serves there is a plastic oil fill cap with an O-ring (its call an oil plug on the fiche too) on top of the valve cover where one could possibly add oil, but seems redundant to me to even consider using it when you have the side oil tank/reservoir to add oil to, and where you check the level.
Some have asked in other posts if you must add oil to the engine using this fill location when doing an oil change, but the consensus is no need, just use oil tank.
Cheers

the motor will get oil pressure faster on startup if you add 3/4 of a quart to the engine .
I've done hundreds of them and you can hear a little rattle on startup if you don't.
but not a huge deal for most people

sorry guys yes all that other stuff is easy as can be. I am referring to the pic I just posted it is a bolt right beside the left flex pipe and in order to get to it you would have to take gas tank off and the heatsheild to get to it. in the manual it says your have to crack the bolt and wait for oil to seep out and then tighten it... almost like a bleeder screw and if none come out after one minute to shut it down or you risk a seized motor
