oil/filter change on 2008 Vector GT

Does anyone have any helpful info or tips on how to change oil? I found the filter/oil options available but am looking for tech tips to make the job as easy as possible.

Well if it's anything like my 2005, take off the side pannel, drain the oil tank, there is an access pannel under the bellypan take that off, take out the drain plug and take off the filter, then on top of the motor there is a small cap to unscrew on the valve cover to help the oil drain faster. After all the oil is drained and the filter and plugs are back in. Add 3qts to the oil tank and start up. I usually let it run for a few minutes, then top off. There might be some responses that say add some in the valve cover, but the owners manual doesn't say to, and I never have. It's actually not that hard of a job after you do it once.

I have a 2007 Rage (DB1 chassis) and 2008 Vector (DB2 chassis). Oil change is very similar, except on the DB2 removing the side panel does not allow you to drain the oil easily as the lower panel is still in the way. Everything else is identical between the sleds.

I will admit that I use an oil sucker to pull the oil out of the reservoir on the DB2. I have a small suction tube that gets 99% of the oil out.

I changed oil/filter on both at 500 miles, then change out just the reservoir oil before summer storage each year. Just replaced the Rage filter again after 2 seasons and another 2000 miles, although Yamaha says you can go 12K miles between filter changes.

I agree, once you go through the process it is very easy and straightforward to do.

I have a 2008 Vector (DB2). Very easy to remove the lower side panel to drain the tank. Use a #3 phillips so not to wreck the cheap aluminum screws. The engine drain and filter a pretty self explanitory. Have fun!

oil change

Just did the oil change today on the 08 vector gt, agree with the low panel bolts being a PIA. I opened the valve cover plug, drained the tank, crankcase and replaced the filter.

Also I did let her run then checked the oil level, I put about 2.8 quarts in measure just below the H on the stick w/o being screwed in. Book says ok been low and high, if at L or below add. Then it also says add to H- go figure.

Let her run for while, check for any leaks before buttoning her up.

My Yamaha Dealer says, after you drain all the oil from the resivour,bottom engine plug and filter removal,and new filter, pour one litre down the cap hole on the top of the engine and two litres into the resivour. This prevent any dry starts to the engine. Also, in your tool kit is a philips that will remove and reinstall those aluminum screws you are referring to. The dip stick is not an accurate way to insure the correct amount of oil. The owners manual is not correct when it comes to that H comment.

oil change

I heard of pouring some in the valve cover plug, but I think gravity wins. My actual level was just over half, after sitting over night screwed in it's at full.
