Went to change the oil and filter in my 2010 Vector , using an aftermarket would not fit!! Opening is to small. Filter worked fine on my 08 Vector. The filter is longer than a Yamaha. Opening is so small it hard to get a Yamaha in! Going to have to make some changes to opening. Any one have a problem using an aftermarket filter?

Haven't tried an aftermarket filter. Dealer gave me a wrong Yamaha filter, that was too long, once. You might just have the wrong filter.

yeah, the 2010 filter is shorter and the opening is such that only the shorter filter will fit...

Yamaha makes/sells a very good filter. It's rather pricey though! ($8)

Well aware that the PH6017A fits on the Yamaha engines.... BUT the new Vectors have such a small opening that there is no way to get the PH6017A on.
Plus, not only is the opening very tiny, even if it would go in there, I personally don't think there is enough room between the filter stud & the bulkhead to get it threaded on.
The PH6017A is 2 3/4" long. The Yamaha filter is only 1 3/4" long & it BARELY fits.
The SOB engineers got us by the balls on this one. You gotta buy the Yamaha filter for the 2010 Vectors.

I didn't say anything about using a FRAM filter, I only posted this for other MFG of filters that he could check out to see if he could get a SMALLER 1 to fit...

Amen to that. $13.95 at all the dealers around the Madison area.
Solved my problem ! I scribed a line in front of the trap door, an used a cut off wheel and die grinder to cut it out. Cut it straight up from bolt holes and along mark. Used my Super Tech #6607 oil filter from my 08 Vector. Fit rite in an did not hit the cooler hose in back an along side. When I put cover back on I put some duct over back edge to seal it up before I put belly pan protector back on.

Yeehaw!!! Redneck engineering at it's best!! How many beers did it take to dream this one up?
Seriously though, good for you to find a way around the issue. I'm glad to hear there is room to fit the longer filter in there. It really looked to me like there was no room between the stud & bulkhead.
I personally would note to anyone that may want to do this modification, that unless a person has added a skidplate, I wouldn't recommend cutting open the door for more room. This will allow for snow, dirt, rocks, etc. to enter the area, along with the chance of something solid snagging the opening, possibly causing serious damage to the bulkhead area.

My local dealer sells the Vesrah filter PN VSF2006 for the Vector sleds. I believe it is the same filter as the original. It is the same length and has the same Japanese writing on it, looks exactly the same, only it doesn't say YAMAHA on it anywhere. Price was $8.
If you cut to the inside of the line, there is very small slot. Less than 1/16"!!

filter fittment
took me awhile to find this post, i knew i saw it somewhere. i don't care at all for the stock filter. the filter i want to use is the purolator PL14612 which is just a shade under 3" long. anyone know how this compares to the length of the supertech filter? with the PL14612 it looked like even if i relieved the opening to get the filter in there the cover might hit it and if not might be too close as there will be engine movement which could have the filter bumping against it. the filter stud seems pretty long and if it simply threads out it it might be able to be trimmed a little on the lathe to give more room to get the filter up in there. sorry for rambling but i hate to spend twice the amount on half the filter.
