I checked the other day on the price of the Yamaha oil filter for my RX-1 and the price from the dealer was $ 11.95. That seems outrageous. Has anyone checked to see if there is other filters available at a reasonable price???

I heard that one is a Supertech ST6607. Is this a good filter and where can it be purchased??

I remember that there was a post on here about filters but have not found it yet.

I'm using the stock one, can't remember the price. If I only change my oil once a season I don't really check the prices all that much.

My rule is If you have a ten dollar head Buy a ten dollar helmet. What is your engine worth?

I use K&N oil filters, they have much more filter media in them. The price is about the same $11.95 retail but a superior filter gets my nod every time. :ORC

I have used these filters for 25 years and I have never had any issues!
And the price is right  On one application a 1984 Yamaha Virago 1000 which I purchased new in which I changed the oil once a year with Synthetic and these filters from JC Whitney it is still running GREAT!

Here is a previous post:

$5 for the filter(got 4 from JC Whitney, same filter as the R1 motorcycle)
and $5.95 for five Qt container of Castrol GTX 5W-30 from WalMart. I will use this oil until break in is complete before switching to synthetic.

Total price 3QTS of oil $3.60 + $5.= $8.60

Dennis Kirk has them listed as:
K&N 11.99
Fram 9.99
Pro series 9.95
Hiflo 6.25
Emgo 5.99
Personally I wouldn't use anything but stock or K&n or Fram. For and extra 5-6 bucks once a year I will treat my engine to a good filter.

The stock filter is probably about as good as any despite any anecdotal evidence. Yamaha actually recommends changing the filter after break-in and then every 25 000 km. (There's no clutch or transmission to dirty up the filter.) I would be tempted to just change it once a year but certainly not during a mid-season oil change. Spend the money on good oil instead. BTW, I change the oil in both my vehicles every 10 000 km and the filter every other time. Never had a breakdown in 14 years of driving.

MCxpress supplies you with a Hiflo filter with their turbo kits. This filter is well respected in the motorcycle community. P/n is HF204.

i use wix on my rx1 and that is what nascar uses so they mus

i use wix on my rx1 and nascar uses them so they must be pretty good..... the part# for the wix filter is 51358 and can be picked up at any parts store that sells wix filters. (oh ya what ever you do dont use fram they are junk trust me i work for a parts store and that is the worst filter you could use !)

02snake, I'd steer clear of the Fram filters.

You guys who recommended Wix, Amsoil, and stock filters are in the green.

For those of you who don't change the filter with the oil should reconsider that, furthermore filters are cheap.

Wal-Mart for $1.97, I use them all of the time on my Raptor but I change the filter after every weekend ride.

I'll use the Yamaha filter on my Rage as well as Yamalube just because the sledding season is so short I don't care to leave much to chance. I'll feel real lucky if I get enough miles to do three oil changes this season. :D

Why change the filter every 3000 km when that is only 1/8 of the recommended interval? Why not put rings in the engine at the same time just to be safe? Maybe I'll change my shock oil every 45 minutes. (That one was stupid.) At some point, I should trust the engineers at Yamaha rather than some old-timer who would probably try to adjust the points on my sled if he had the chance. Five dollars buys a couple of flowers which I give to my wife to put her in a good mood so she won't object too much when I tell her I'm taking off for 5 days. Try that with an oil filter.

I think I'll be using the new yammie lube S-4 oil. Semi-syn. 0-30w. As far as the filter???? Since I only will change it once a season. Stock. or a good after market is fine with me. ;)! MM.
