Oil in my Air Cleaner

Hello everyone, I was tinkering with ny 03 RX mtn and found alot of crank case oil in my air filter. After talking with my buddy he said when you fill it you just dip the stick instead of turning it all the way in to check level. is this correct? hopefully I just over filled it :o|

any time you have it on it side or upside down the oil will run into the carbs and out into the air filter. So if you get it stuck or roll it down a hill be aware of this problem.

There will always be some oil in the airbox because the crank case vent is in there. If you have alot of oil in it all the time then you may be over filling it with oil. When you check the oil, the engine must be up to full operating temp. If you check it when it is not hot enough, you will have it over full and the extra oil will be pushed out through the breather into the airbox. I would suggest checking your oil when you load your sled at the end of a ride. The oil is at its hottest and at its highest level then. The "F" is for full and the "E" is for enough, not empty. If it between the marks you are good.

Yes, your buddy is correct on filling up the oil.

Since you mentioned it was an 03 RX-1, make sure there is a slit in your breather hose. It hasn't been that cold yet, but when temperatures get really cold like 30 below or colder, ice can build up in the breather hose and crank case pressure will cause oil to spew out. The slit allows the pressure to be relieved. Scared the hell out of me when oil starting shooting out before I put the slit in my hose.

Yamaha needs to pull their head out of their arss and find a cure for oil running out when you tip over. How many sledders you know that have never tipped over......sheeesh.
