Oil leaking on Attak Monoshock

I noticed today that there is a small amount of oil that appears to have leaked from the seal on the shock. Wiped it off and am going to check it again in a few days to see if it returns. Dealer gets a call tomorrow to let him know just in case. Anyone else happen to notice? I'm hoping it's just from when it was assembled, but I highly doubt it. :o|
 

I remember 05 guys reporting this last year on the mono skids. I don't remember what the problem turned out being. It's possible the seals need to seat just like a piston ring needs to seat before completely sealing.
 
I had that happen before I picked my 05 up. They wiped it off and it didn't leak again but still replaced it before I picked it up.
 
I remember in an earlier post that the people that were having this problem were told that it had to get worked a little before it would seat. If it's still leaking after the first ride I would then take it back to the dealer.
 
After I wiped it off yesterday, I bounced up and down on it until my legs were ready to fall off. Checked it today and as of yet no leak. Still going to keep an eye on it of course. Dealer said if it leaks again then bring it in and they'll take care of it. Keep you posted...
 
Excuse me but I see no reason why a top of the line brand new shock has to leak oil and leave it up to the owner to break it in so it stops leaking. They should work them and test them for leaks prior to shipping. What a joke! I mean how hard could that be for them to work them a few hundred times prior to shipping.
 
They might coat the outside of the shaft with an oil/preservative for shipping.

When I rebuild my shocks I always put some shock oil on the shaft (usually the shock shafts are starting to pit a little on my older sleds and I don't want it to get any worse). If I was shipping a product overseas I would definitely coat anything I could with a little oil.

Just a possibility...
 
i love having my sled right now but we would have been better getting them in late november, everybodys taking apart there sleds(including me) and disecting every little part on it, were gonna have twenty potential little problems by time december gets here.. my sled is leaking some grease from the zerks but there is grease in them, im not gonna worry about it until i break it in a little, christ i already chipped some paint off my front rods monkeying around with the shock adjustment with that peice of crap spanner wrench, which works like crap on the rear shock too, my expert x spanner works alot better on it, i guess my point is i gotta leave that sled alone , even though i know i wont..

What is Yamaha supposted to do now? Put these things in a suspension cycle rig and go through 1000 actuations? :exc: Then we would complain about the extra cost of doing that, :( when the same thing will be acomplished the first 100 miles we ride it. The seal and rod might have a factor designed into it for colder temps also.
The same thing was brought up last year and it is either sweat from the rod and seal not fully polished in or corrosion preventative for shipment overseas. From what I saw Y worked very hard to make these sleds bug free and very high quality :D I know it is hard to get thru these dog days of summer when you got a new sled you want to get on snow. We'll be fine, you'll see :D :D :D

I dont care what they have to do to get it right but get it right the first time. If my car shocks leaked that is a sign something is wrong and they need replacing. If yamaha builds it we are supposed to live with a leaking shock. Thats being a little to loose time to tighten the sphincter a bit!
 
This is a non problem. a drop of oil that could have sweated past the seal, oil left over from the manufacturing process, or oil from a rust protector does not indicate a faulty or leaking shock.
 
Your're right sleddog,why don't you just sell it!or better yet since your're so pissed about nothing just give it away and then you'll really have something to be mad about.LOL. :yam: :tg:By the way when was the last time you checked for sweating shock's on a new car?. :shock:
