2008 nytro FX -The bolts on the one way clutch for the starter gear sheered off. I have located only one bolt head and believe the remaining 2 to be in the oil pan. Do you know if I can remove the pan with the engine in the chasis to extract the bolt heads?

You should be able to. once you have that OEM skid plate off the pan will be right there. The first concern i have is whether or not it will wiggle out between the metal tabs for the skid plate. The second concern is whether or not you'll actually find the heads of the bolts in the rather small pan. It's more a cover really......
FYI, I removed the sway bar mounting block bolts & bolts that connect sway bar to lower A arm links. I wire tied the sway bar up out of the way. Removal of the oil pan bolts was easy. Although I was unable to remove the pan completely. The oil pump prevents the pan from being removed and creates a clearance issue between the pan and tublar frame. I was able to tilt the pan forward enough to create enough clearance at the back of the pan. I used a flexible magnet and removed the missing bolt heads and fragments. Reassembled and am all set. Thanks

So, if you took the subframe off, it would probably have come right off?
