I bounced the front of my 08 RTX off a burm and broke my belly pan and oil pan. I turned it off immediately and loaded the sled onto the trailer ( I got lucky, I was less than a 1/2 mile from my drop spot).

I have the body panels off and have access to remove the oil pan from the bottom of the sled. Anything i need to be aware of prior or during the disassembly and reassemble processes? I was advised by two different service techs from different dealerships that engine removal on the 08's is not required to swap out the oil pan.

At this time I do not know if the oil pump has been damaged although the screen does look like it has possible damage.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Bummer! The number one add to these Nytro's is an aftermarket skid plate!! I learned first hand that there is WAY to much exposed at the bottom of these 4 strokes not to have extra protection. My oil filter got creased and bled out the oil and burned up the engine on my 2008. Form my experience the oil pan is an easy fix. I would change your oil pump if you have any doubt weather it's damaged or not. I would also change your oil filter in case you got any metal particles in your system. Good Luck!

Thanks guys for the input.
So my other question is regarding the oil pump.
When I drop the pan (in the process of completing)
what is involved with swapping out the oil pump assembly? Did some research and have not been able to find much on this so far.

Thoughts or past experience with this part of the project anyone?

Thanks again

The oil pump is chain driven. By looking at the manual it looks like you could unbolt the sprocket on the pump, take off the pump, and bolt a new pump in place. The pickup screens are replaceable as well. Pumps are not cheap. You may want to consider one of the skid plates I make.

R,
Thanks for the input,
I have a manual but I didn't see that part of the repair in what I read.
Guess I need to do more research.

You are the next call on my list after I repair my sled.
Running any "End of the season" specials on your skid plates?

I was looking at pages 5-44 - 5-49 to get an idea of what's involved and whether it could be done. Spray25 on this forum may have an oil pump for you. My skid plate special is cheap, fast shipping.

Do you make a plate for the Phazer?

Thanks again R,

I'll review those pages when I get home. I have located a pan/pump already although it never hurts to have options.
