Hello guys looking to restrict my oil feed on my 2860 turbo. I have it on my Nypex project and am looking to go down from the 35thou down to maybe 28 or so. I have the drain as large as I can go, its a gravity drain system. What is the best way to do this? I would prefer a brass fitting for my turbo, I tried a aluminum modified one screwed into my turbo and it kept coming loose causing a small fire. Tapping and installing a pilot jet or something? Thanx for any info. Shad

Vibrant has a oil restrictor with changeable jets, I cant remember the smaller ones size but it could be worth checking out. This is what I ran this summer.

A Yamaha air jet will screw right into the top of the turbo (if you look into the oil inlet you will see threads in there, the jets will screw right into that). The 0.8 air jet is a .035", not sure what the next size down would be though.

Cool I havent looked for threads in there. Air jet from which carb? Thanx for the info guys. Shad

Garrett recommends the 35 is there a reason you want to go smaller? Back in the day my buddies Bender Rx1 had the restrictor in a rubber line way back from the turbo so there were no heat issues. It actually worked quite well. Are you getting lots of smoke? Check the CHRA maybe you've got a bad seal.

I have a 35thou restrictor in there now but have burnt oil on start up since I built this sled, turbo was new too. I have about 14inches of return line to the index hole on the mag cover. I increased the line size last year and it helped but looking to maybe cure the problem. I am using the Yamalube gold synthetic oil and am going to switch to the silver 0w30 oil this year. I talked to a few guys that have restricted the oil down some more to cure the problem in certain applications. Thanx for the info. Shad

What size is the return line Shad? Only way I fixed my midmount setup was 5/8 drain. The .035 orfice has been in my supply line since 2005. When the turbo lived left of the steering post, no issues. When I moved it behind the steering post. Fought with it for 2yrs season, 5/8 return got rid of my smoking issues. Brand new engine, brand new turbo, it was worse than an older 2stroke. Only did it when engine was cold, brand/weight of oil didnt make a difference.

Hello, long time no talk. I increased my line to 7/16 stainless line last year and helped a little. You know my setup but my drain line goes horizontal for about 6 inches then jogs down to my index hole. My turbo drain is below my valve cover so cant drain there either. What kind of line did you use? Maybe shoot me a pic of your setup. Dont want to go to a scavenge or electric pump. Just smokes on start up and some guys say they can smell it on the trail sometimes. Not the end of the world just like to fix it up. Thanx Shad

I hear you on fix it up, its just looks bad for the amount of time & money spent to smoke. Computers have shorted & complicated my life, I have no idea how to emails pics. Got buddy to do that stuff, I hate computers. I also had to use the mag pointer for the drain, turbo sits on top of tunnel. The oil line loops backwards the tank, then behind the chaincase, then to timing pointer. If you go to ty4garage section, under my build, pg 6 shows the line, fittings, etc. Its 5/8 ss line from work, its used for semi's air compressor discharge line.
