OIL spewed out the breather all over the motor!!!! WHY?

ouch, definatly a hurt unit. we stock all the parts you need and can also do the work for you if needed. rebuild it with low compression pistons and heavy duty studs, then it will be more excessive boost friendly. cylinders will need to be replated at least, probably SLEEVED then replated if bore is far enough out of round. jeff

Doesn't the 03 have cast iron cylinders? hopefully!.

I've just been swapping the plugs around and it still leaves the #2 plug wet. the only new plugs in the garage have permanent caps on them.

Ok, for tomorrow, what is the normal compression lbs. In case they are all equal. Of course if just the one is significantly lower the motor coming apart anyway.

Ummm, no - you're thinking of a Chevy. Stop running the engine. You almost certainly have a bunch of metal inside the motor in places where it shouldn't be. Don't make a serious problem even worse...

For that much boost you need 100% race fuel of at least 110MON or higher and a good wideband tune to stand a chance on a stock motor.

I assume you don't own a wideband?

Plug is wet because the compression is not there!

If I was a betting man it would be a cracked or busted piston. The aluminum slid down the wall and seazed your rings to the piston. Your getting piston slap and low compression.

I recommend, dont start it anymore. You really will make it worse. (like move into the crank area!)

Bet it looks like this! Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt and the piston is hanging on the wall! LOL!

I bet it went pretty good. I was talking to the guy I got my turbo from, he did a pass on a fresh motor and didnt realize the boost was at 26lbs. (was told his machanic set it up??)

Took one pass and he said he has never been on anything that fast before. But it did the same thing as in that picture. Complete rebuild!

Good gas, very very important.

This one took three passes on high boost before it went down, spit oil all over, still seemed to run kinda ok when we loaded it on the trailer.

Won't make that mistake again.

The question is.......DO YOU HAVE A WIDEBAND???

You shouldn't be tweaking and playing with boost unless you know for sure what you are running at and it seems every different motor/turbo setup can be different. It wouldn't matter if you were only running 10psi.....if you are running it at an AFR of 16 then some popping will likely occur.

yes to the wideband, on each boosted sled. I don't notice any warning signs of impending detonation though. Do you guys think the knockbox is a good investment? Does it let you know in time to shut her down?

I'm not going to start it anymore, those pictures are scary and right now the turbo still makes that nice wind down sound when you shut it off.

I've blown up many many many vmax4 turbo's back in 92-93. I gave Jim and dynotech 16 trashed cylinders that first season. anyone remember aerodyne? They went out of business the year after i sold my last turbo vmax-4.

I boosted my first 4 stroke in 2003 and this is the first one that's hurt. Probably from low octane. Anyone want odds that it's not just a stuck ring? I'll post pics when the motor is apart.

Important stuff now, Quickest and fastest was the sled pushing 16lbs, the second with 10lbs. and the 3rd with 8lbs. no surprises to anyone except the guy running 8 lbs thought everyone else was also.

I've got $20 on ashtray...

Did you open it up yet?

I'd say no to the knock-box , but yes, to boost 101 schooling. You are now going through the school of hard knocks, no pun intended, And that my friend, is an expensive education.

What does it cost to get all four cly done like new,or would it be better to buy that part of the block new again?THANKS

No such thing as buying that part of the block again. they are matched upper/lower sets...
