in the end i ended up buyin the 4 left over bottles of yamahalube from my friend from his 4 stroke that he sold , i got the 4 jugs for 30 dollars, i phoned the dealer and it woulda costed 65 so thats pretty good, so will be running this for now.
If you are referring to 1 litre bottles, $65 is the wrong price for 4 litres or your dealer would be ripping you off big time. 1 litre should be around 9 to 11 dollars.

Not at my dealer, the last time I checked, (over 2 yrs ago) the full synthetic was around $21.99 and the semi-syn was around $17.99 a Ltr.

When I first purchased my Vector, I bought 3 ltrs of full syn Yamalube and a Yamaha filter and it was over $90.00 dollars!!!
Needless to say, I have been running Mobil-1 0W-40 and Hi-Flo filters since which cost less than half that ;)!

nahhh, the 0-30 semi syn is 11.29 list at most yam dealers

lets type this in again for the hundredth time, these motors do not have a wet clutch. period.

How do you figure I am in the middle of changing the starter clutch assembly and it is bathed in oil so I would say that is a wet clutch.

does the starter clutch have a bunch of fiber plates stacked together that can slip? in the 10 years since the rx1, has a starter malfunctioned because of the oil?

I'm switching this year to the Mobil one euro from yamalube mostly in part to using Mobil one in everything else I own and some extensive research I've read on this site ( thanks to irv I think it was). Not to open up a can of worms but what about chain case oil. The book says 75w or 80w gear lube. What about using Mobil one 75w-90 gear lube. I have used Amsoil but I have never had any luck with Amsoil intercepter in any two smokes so I kinda want to stay away from it. Also I have a friend with a Honda rancher same as me and he uses Amsoil and I uses oil I use the Honda oil (made by Mobil ) and I use none.

;)!

I have been using the syn Mobil-1 75w-90 for years now Mcamzr. I have used it in my XLT for at least 10-15yrs and in my Vector for the last 3, all without issue.

I do change both sleds out every year regardless of miles, just because so little actually goes in there.

And there it is... Mobil one in the chain case for me it is.

To clarify the starter clutch is a one way roller clutch. Like a bearing but ment to spin in one direction and lock in the other. There are no friction disc clutch plates like grader said. So that said, wet clutch compatible oil doesn't matter in these engines. What does matter is the zinc content in the oil. Since EPA has made oil manufacturers cut the zinc to almost non existent numbers In most oil, cams have been rounding out and bearings failing prematurely. I've been running mobile 1 but I'm having a feeling the the zinc has been cut back In that too

I run amsoil marine severe gear in my chaincase. I also change it every year regardless of mileage.

With gas prices in the high $3...... 1 oild change a year with Yamalube ........ not really a big deal is it? What do you save? $10? I am not sure, don't even know the costs. Don't want to know the costs. I know that I run what the manufacturer makes. If I ran a polaris, it would have polaris oil. My Harley got Harley oil when I had it........

I know enough about oil to know I don't know anything about oil. I am betting that is 99% of the people in this world.

I can't imagine any roller cam rounding out. Maybe a flat tappet cam with huge lift but not a roller.
