They only went that far as that is what is best for the engine, the combination of both mineral and synthetic.

Well I looked it up and now where does it state 70% synthetic. Some synthetic sure but to run that much synthetic in a break in oil I find hard to believe.
Yamalube® 4-S
Yamalube 4-S Extreme Cold Weather Formula was designed to provide Yamaha owners with precision blended oil for their 4-stroke snowmobile engines used in extreme conditions.
Features:
Performance Additives
Yamalube 4-S contains more performance additives than found in typical oils. These additive fight corrosion, varnish, and wear. As a result, Yamalube 4-S provides low friction, high performance, and longer engine life.
SAE 0W-30 Formulation for Start-ability
Yamalube 4-S provides unmatched low-temperature start-ability with an SAE 0W-30 rating only achievable with its premium synthetic blend oil. This multi-grade oil gives extra protection during the critical cold-start period where a large part of an engine’s wear could occur while also allowing faster starting than any conventional SAE 5W or SAE 10W grade oils could provide.
Cold-Weather Protection
This oil has a special cold-weather additive package not found in common motor oils. Yamalube 4-S provides optimum low-temperature pump-ability down to –40°F (-40°C). This oil has passed rigorous testing – in fact, it’s so good that now even our factory engineers now recommend it for Yamaha snowmobile models that specify 5W30 when operated at 0°F (-18°C) or below. This new oil provides the same legendary Yamalube protection on the trail or lake, with even better protection during start-up in extreme cold.
Synthetic Blend
With its exclusive blend of poly-alpha olefins and esters, Yamalube 4-S provides low friction, high performance, and longer engine life for Yamaha’s high-performance four-stroke snowmobiles. It’s designed to lubricate and protect during full-throttle lake runs, in expeditions through the deep powder on a mountainside, and in the constantly changing demands of tackling a challenging trail through the woods.
This Yamalube 4-S Formula meets or exceeds all API certifications as recommended for use in Yamaha engines.

I don't know, because I have'nt picked up my attak yet, but my 03 RX1 manual said not to use synthetic oil because of a starter drive issue. I think it said it was too slippery and could let the drive slip. Any one remember this?

It didn't say not to use synthetic, it said not to use "energy conserving II" (or whatever that label was, but ec1 was fine).

impalapower said:The engine will outlast the chassis.
:ORC Aint that the truth.
BTW: Use exactly what Yamaha tells you to, and you will be fine.
