What is everyone useing because I usually use all yamaha lube in everything but for the apex it seems a bit steep now @ $18 a liter when it can be got for $10 for a mobil 1 product or $14 for ambsoil. Also debating on the 0w30 or 0w40.

changing from Redline 0w20 to mobile 1 5w20,mainly cause i can get it cheaper locally then redline....both awesome IMO.
sticking with the redline shockproof lightweight gear oil for chaincase, great stuff.
BTW i just got Mobile 1 at walmart 5 quart jug for $22 bucks....man you gotta love that price!
the w20 will make more speed ontop end IMO.

amsoil full syn 0w30 for me...
I always buy my oil from a company that makes oil. Yamaha does not make their own oil so they are buying it from another company and increasing the price so they make a profit. Usually they buy from the lowest bidder so you never know whats in the bottle.
I like amsoil myself because its a very reputable company that knows synthetics
Others use mobil1 which is a good oil also I use it in my truck and wifes van...
As for weights. some like the 0w20 because a lighter oil can yield more power. Others like 0w40 because a heavier oil can give more protection during hard operation... I go right in the middle.. 0w30
But its all your call in the end.....

When I used 0w30 Mobil 1 I used some oil. Up over mountains carrying a huge guy like me.
Then I saw Yamaha came out with 0w40 and switched to this but in Mobil 1 0w40 and use less of course..

5 w30 would be fine....it wont be quite is good in extreme cold starting(5w)...then a 0w would be.
I ran 5w 20 from redline for two seasons no prob....i think O starting weight is only needed for extreme cold mornings.
mobile 1 has several weights in jugs at walmart for 22 bucks,i think most common would be 0w30 or 5w30 for normal riding...the key here is synthetic after initial break in of motor.
