Extreme
Need some input on tracks. I have searched a fair bit on this site and others and cant decide. Going on a 03 TRX1
I am moving from a 159 X 15 to a 162 X 16. ( Doing 8 inch wheels as well) and will make new drop brackets. Currently have 2.52 drivers. They look the same brand as the ones in Johnny Rockets post on his track switch. ( anybody know which ones they are?)
I can not find a Challenger extreme 162 x 16 x 2.5 in a 2.52 driver. I can find a Challenger 162 X 16 X 2.3 (9979) and use my drivers or go with 3 inch new Avid drivers and a new 2.5 inch track (9944)
How much difference is there in the performance of the two???
Either way I can wait to ride

Eastern Oregon..............hum, you are just down the road from me.
The Jonny Rocket drop brackets were made from 1/4" 5052 aluminum plate. I have the same ones and maybe the template. I can't remember if I gave it back to Jonny or if I still have it. I have traced it and mailed it to several others.
As far as tracks go. The Camo Extreme is pretty darn awesome. I'd buy some of the less expensive Wahl brother drivers (1/2 the cost of Avid) and the Camo Extreme. The 3.0" pitch track tend to be lighter (less bars) and work very well.
Good luck

dont go with the 2.3, very heavy track. You will like the Extreme, but dont go with Wahl, you will destroy it in the firt couple of ride.
2.5 is awesome like Frosty said. hook up on anything, even on Grass.

I'll look for the template. I'll PM you if I find it (it was in my trailer) but, I may have given it back to Jonny last winter?
Don't fear the Wahl brother drivers if you aren't turboed. I have run mine for several seasons and they look fine. Yes, the Avids are probably a tiny bit better for longevity but, at double the cost they should be. Just get a pair of 7 tooth 3.0 drivers and you'll be good to go. The measurements for placement of the drivers on the driveshaft is on Wahl brothers's website.
I have also heard the Avid drivers can be more prone to vibration issues because they are machined (or cut) with numerous short straight cuts to form a circle vs. being formed into a circle like the Wahl drivers.
Then again, I have heard from Avid that the Wahl brothers drivers have a timing issue. Supposedly, when they designed the drivers they are off in their measurement between the drivers by some minute amount. Who knows?
Just buy some drivers.
Hey, here's an extremely cheap way to get the drivers you need. Find someone with a Nytro MTX or an Apex MTX that has turboed their sled. In most cases they have replaced the stock drivers and will sell their stock drivers (four wheels, two extrovert drivers and the two round wheels) for pennies on the dollar. I bet there are plenty of the them around and like the Wahl brothers, if you aren't under boost they will last you for many seasons. If you mark where the RX-1 stock drivers are on the drive shaft, these will go in the same spots.
I guess it all depends on what you want to spend on a track. The new Arctic cat Power Claw track (a combination of the Attack 20 and a finger track) is supposed to be even better than the Camo Extreme. Who knows, both are pretty pricey.
A super cheap way to go to a 3.0" pitch track (if you are trying to save a bunch of money) is to buy a 3.0" Maverick take off. No, they aren't as good as an Extreme and they won't last as long but in the fluffy stuff they do ok. I just bought two complete Nytro rear skids and their stock 153" Maverick tracks for my wife's and son's sleds. They were cheap!
Call Dustin at Outlaw Motor Sports. I bet he has a shop full of 162" Mavericks. I bet you could buy one for $135 vs, $700 for an Extreme.
Good luck

I am running a turbo at 13 lbs. My main objective is high quality and long life span so I dont mind a little extra money for the avids. Great tip on the mav. I have a friend who is financaly challenged and I will pass that on to him. I am in my late 40s and just want the good stuff.. But dont want to spend stupid either. I hear there is a 3 inch paddle coming but I dont want to move that much stuff to make it fit. Talk about hook up

Hey, we're the same age.
Yes, then the Avid drivers and the Camo Extreme or Powerclaw are the way to go.
I'm done putting any more money into my RX-1M. It works well but, I'm saving up for a 2010 Yamaha mountain sled (whatever it may be).

Cool we will have to hook up on a ride somewhere. probably lots of good areas in between us. Not alot of Yamaha guys down here, sometimes hard to find a good croud to ride with. I ride too fast for the older guys and not out for a drunk fest with some of the younger croud. Only work 1 day a week durring the winter months so I have a great set-up.

The riding too fast for the old guys sounds very familiar! Also, the drunk fest for the younger guys sounds familiar as I wait unitl I'm off the trail for beers anymore.
I work for the government, how bad can it be. You let me know the day and I can be there. Where are you located in Eastern Oregon?
It's probably time to move this to a PM.

I have a set of the drop brackets if you want them I could sell them for what I have in them. Same ones I have on my sled. 1/4" aluminum. Send me a PM if you are interested.
