I have decided to bite the bullet on a turbo or the new supercharger that Yamaha just announced from Mountain Performance. Most of my riding is in Michigan. I am looking for opinions from you guys that have experience on these. I have a 2012 Nytro XTX. I like the idea of the Mountain Performance supercharger because if you ever have trouble the dealers should have some experience with them if they have installed them. I have done some research on the turbo vs supercharger, but what can I expect the performance difference to be between the 2.

I have no regrets on an MPI 180 Turbo kit. I'm in AK and a this kit runs sweet at all elevations but I lot of my riding is 0-2000 elevation range. I based my decision on:
-Mechanically simpler, more reliable
-Using exhaust gas rather than mechanical energy
-More efficient, fuel burn less
-Boost the same at all elevations
-Less under the hood heat issues
-Less weight
-Recommendation from those that already boosted. My dealer has installed both and they prefer turbo.
Having said all of that.... I've never ridden a Supercharged sled! Maybe someone will chime in on the actual riding performance differences. I was initially worried about Turbo spool lag but I am no longer....

I run a MPI SC on a apex so it might not be the same but I chose that over a turbo because I wanted stock exhaust, no heat, and no header. I really didn't want a rear mount bouncing around back there as I mash through the saturday night moguls.
System has been stock reliable since install in 2006. Never ever ever had a failure and we trail ride backpacking in WI and UP of MI miles from anything and i trust it in all weather conditions. It starts and works as it should every time. It has about 5000 miles on it now.
Honestly you cant go wrong either way. One warning if you like to trade sleds a lot or swap every year dont get any boost. It absolutely ruins you from wanting to ride anything stock. The fastest production sled is a pooch compared to a boosted yammie. Its like having a ferrari and selling it to drive a chevy malibu. You just cant do it once you have had it LOL

You may want to check and verify this, but I think the MPI kit from the dealers have available is one that's set up for higher elevation (6000+) so there may be some changes necessary to run it at lower altitudes?
Does anybody else know if I'm wrong on this one?

you are right and wrong...Yamaha released a kit last week for the flat landers.nate007 said:You may want to check and verify this, but I think the MPI kit from the dealers have available is one that's set up for higher elevation (6000+) so there may be some changes necessary to run it at lower altitudes?

The high elevation kits work great even at sea level, we have many kits running around with no issues. Adjusting the wastage and fuel box is all that is needed.

I couldn't find the kit for the flat land sleds, if someone has a link to the kit can you post it? Only thing on Yamaha's site was just the mountain version.
I didn't think the MPI kits come with a wastegate, unless you're talking about the turbo? Everyone I know who's had the MPI kit around here has had to purchase and install a wastegate after buying the kit.

I'm referring to the turbo kit. The super needs a new pulley that mpi would supply if requested. I prefer the turbos for trail or mountain riding though, just my preference. I don't think there is any lag with the stock compression setups so I don't see any advantage to the supers.
