Hey guys. Just recently purchased the optimate 4 battery charger/maintainer. I currently have it hooked up to the battery on my 2014 Sr Viper for a little over 4 hours now. I noticed that green(#5 in the manual) and yellow(#6 in the manual) light seem to flash often. I've read the manual countless times to try and figure it out what it would mean but the instructions aren't very helpful. Anyone have the optimate 4 and could tell me what it means? Do I need a battery? It seems in the instructions it says if it isn't a solid green your battery isn't good enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Un hook and let it rest for a few hours and do it again. If its bad, it will go red.

Page 5 of the manual explains what the yellow/red lights together means. If you are charging it in the sled remove it and charge. If now you are just getting the green light(#5) then something on the sled is causing a voltage drain during the 30 minute test periods.

From what I understand the optimate 4 charges the battery and when charged it cycles a float charge of approx. 13.4 or so on and off in a cycle. From memory every 30 min. or so.
The 1.5 amp maintainers I have charge the battery at approx. 14.4 volts, then when charged the green light comes on and the charger goes to float at approx. 13.2 or 13.3 volts.
The optimate 4 is suppose to be better for the battery than other maintainers.
As per Snow Tech magazine any constant or intermitant continuous charge is hard on the battery, but better than just letting it go dead. The best way to treat your battery for long life is to charge it with your maintainer once a month and then remove maintainer.

I'm not getting the yellow and red lights together. I'm getting the yellow and green lights together and in the manual it doesn't state anything when the two are flashing together ( the yellow and green )

My bad I meant yellow/green lights flashing together. Page 5 does discuss this, look at item 6 on that page and read the note below the table. The optimate only charges every 30 minutes, the other 30 it is doing a voltage retention test. If green#5 is not the only light on then it is telling you to remove the battery and charge. That way you can determine if the voltage drop the optimate is sensing is caused by the battery or something on the sled. I started using a optimate 3 when I bought my '03 RX-1 and now I'm using the optimate 4 on my Apex. I have never replaced a battery using this charging system during the off season.
