rode today with 2016 venture and 2011 apex hardpacked trails early am. Apex no studs stock venture 96 studs. SW 192 studs . SW overheated several times. Apex and Venture no problem.

Install a set of scratchers they might help for additional cooling in hard conditions. I'm not 100% they will but it might be worth a try.

Tight motor yet also..

After riding last weekend at idle my sidewinder would get hot fast. Blurping the throttle while sitting would keep the temps much lower.
Slow constant speeds and idling it would run much hotter.
New 850 DOO ran hotter than my winder under most conditions until sitting. It does seem that it does not like idle very long before the temp goes up fast.

The over heat was not from idle it was on trail while driving. At first I wasn't watching the temp gauge until the engine acted like it was loading up.... running on 2 cylinders?

Riding with 2015 Viper. 2016 ZR 8000, on very hard trails, the Viper got up to 90c at times, Cat temp light on several times, the highest temp I saw was 83c on my Sidewinder. Just finding a little loose snow temp dropped to around 77c, about were it normally runs. I will be looking at scratchers.

Check the antifreeze mixture. If it's straight antifreeze it won't cool nearly as much as 50/50

I am still envisioning a small apex rad and fan setup for these sleds. Hopefully I will have a sidewinder of my own soon to begin a prototype!;)!

I had the same problem yesterday on rock hard trails. Installed scratchers and it fixed the problem but it is annoying that the scratchers are needed. Hopefully someone comes out with a small rad kit. First sled I have ever needed scratchers on.

I'm running scratchers. We recently received rain here and froze the trails
Everyone I rode with overheated unless they ran scratchers. Costs $50 and saves your hyfax in low snow conditions. My 2012 1100T was way harder to keep cool.

No problems with mine. Been running duraflex scratchers for years. Have not replaced hyfax in years also.

I think the fan, well do the trick,my sons winder I did the first 80 miles and I can tell ya,it runs much hotter than any of our apes did,the temp on his was in great conditions 172-180 as soon as you got on very hard trails and rode slower say 35-45 it started to heat up,so I had to jam it as much as I could to keep the track spinning hard,it was in the pitch black wooded trails at 8pm,so I could not run as hard as I would generally. Scratchers will be going on mine,as soon as I get parts.

I'd say something not right with yours then. I rode about 400 miles this weekend in all different conditions...early mornings were a perfect test on very hard pack/ crusty conditions. While riding sled stayed at about 174-176 deg. As the days warmed up..and snow became looser...always runs between 168-172. Now I agree they get hot pretty quick while sitting and idling.

Rode in the UP last weekend and had no issues with over heating. How do you get the display to show the actual temperature in degrees? Mine is just a bar that shows hot and cold.
