my son has a 2002 grizzly and this weekend it over heated and he had to add some water but we were working it pretty hard and it was 95+ outside and i thought it was just because it was so hot but i hooked the disk to my 2004 griz and did not have any problem. is there something we need to do? flush it out or replace the antifreeze maybe? thanks for any info.

It's likely the radiator has become plugged with time and splashing through mud puddles. You don't have to be 'boon-docking' to plug up the tight fins on a Grizzly radiator.
Remove the front rack then the access panel on top of the front fender to get a view of the radiator and you will likely see a collection of dirt and gunk collected on the rear of the rad. Simply use a hose to wash out it out from the rear and you should be good to go. Avoid using a pressure washer as it can bend over the fins and you'll be plugged for good.
Hope this works for you.

I think steve might be right. Also it won't hurt to change the coolant its probly do. One more thing since his is an 02 has it had the updated side panels put in with the vents in it. I have a friend that has an 02 and his overheated alot until he got the side panels with the vents in em like the 03 and up have.
hope this helps...

Good call on the side panels, I had forgotten all about those on that model year.
After posting the above, I decided to practice what I preach and sure enough the back side of the rad on both of my machines was starting to become plugged. With a clear view from the top, I could see that water sprayed from the front through the grill was not getting through the rad. A quick blast from the hose on the back side was all it took to knock off the grunge and get flow again.
The best part is that it only takes a couple minutes to do this while my Sportsman riding friends seem to take at least a 6-pack to do theirs.
Maybe they like it that way.
