I machined my primary so that the belt will come to the top and be flush with sheaves. and i cut my helix so it will open more.
Here's my question. How far down the primary is 1to1? 8mm 10mm or what?
I have been playing on a lake with a radar, 1 inch of snow on perfect ice. 108 is max radar around 1500 and it will only go 4 or so more mph on speedo further out. I also run 23/38 gears. The gear chart says it should go 113 before od.
I'm trying to figure out why it won't fill out the clutchs.

Have you played around at all with your helix or secondary spring? Might not hurt to read up and try a different wrap of the secondary. I have an attack secondary spring in my MTX wrapped 6-3 with the mtx secondary and I am getting 116 on the speedo across the lake.

What is your clutch springs set at. I am running 21-38 gears and I am at 109 gps, you should get to 115 to 118 with those gears and cut clutches.

I have 22/40 gears drag n flys set with bolt and one washer in all but the heel and there are 3 washers in the heel. I also have a red HC primary spring. Secondary spring... See above post. On my phone, sorry if mistyped. pulls like a freight train.

Timeout. My 116 is on the dream-o-meter! I just read you are at 109 gps which is probably faster than me. I'm sure I was about 103ish gps but with an MTX haha.... On another note. Your 21/38 (.5526) gears are almost the same ratio as my 22/40 (.55) so you might not have much gear left.

Yes 124 dreamameter is where I am at and I did run the 23-38 gears before and was at 130 which is 112 on gps.

I am currently at 10500rpm and if I brought that up to 10900 I can gain 4mph.

Take a little weight out of the tip. Just a washer or split the weight of one washer on the tip. Just do the least amount of weight possible. Then run it and see. Don't mess with the secondary anymore until you get your rpms set.

I did play with a dalton helix that has the right amount of material already removed and also tryed the red dalton secondary spring in a few different holes. overall it all seems to be about the same results in speed.
One thing I did find interesting is I put the primary on the sled with no spring and put the secondary on also with the dalton spring set at 70d and on the stand with gentle throttle it with fill the clutch to the top. But when I use the stock pink spring it will only got to about 1/4 inch from the top.
Can there be secondary spring bind?

If you want to know how far you are shifting put a mark with a magic marker on both primary and secondary clutch. The belt will whip the mark off and show you how far up the sheiv's the belt is going. When the primary mark gets wiped farther up than the secondary gets pulled open you are in overdrive.evil eagle said:I machined my primary so that the belt will come to the top and be flush with sheaves. and i cut my helix so it will open more.

I am plagued with the same situation. I have a '11 SE with 3000m. The best I've done is 104m gps with numerous attempts. The attached pictures show that the primary doesn't shift out as far as I have seen on other make sleds. Does anyone know why this is? On the primary "C" area has never been used. The "B" area is where it was shifting on the lake. You can see that most of my riding is in the "A" which is in the 40-80mph range. The secondary basically shows the inverse pattern.

Do you use the red dalton? What is it about the pink ths causes the bind? The coil thickness when it all compresses down inside of the clutch?
This spring is softer than the pink. 70d don't seem to be enough, and I am not comfortable with running any more than 80d spring twist.

the belt will never run up in area c due to shieve angles it is impossible for the belt torun up there because the clutch cant squeze the belt up there

if you take the secondary apart and do some measuring you will see what has to happen to get overdrive to work. the stock pink has thick coils and limits the opening when compressed. next is the boss inside the stock helix that hits, but can easily be removed with a cutter bit and a drill press. next to hit are the 3 tips of the ramps on the helix. put your secondary together with no spring and open it to see the contact points. with digital calipers do some measuring, eg. spring pocket, sheave separation, and by putting the spring in a vice and compressing it, you will know how much space it requires. the dalton red has good side pressure but does not bind. i also run the dpyr62 dalton weights in the primary and they work well.
