When I am driving my 2007 Phazer fX in pow and such, the air intake in the front freezes over with ice and powder and eventually the overheating light will come on..
Is there any kit or modifications that can solve this issue / anyone experience something similar?
Edit: Apparently there is a fan I need to buy to keep air circulating, what kind of fan and how much $?
Thanks!

its an update and i think its in the 150 dollar relm i would install it myself if i were you... and the shield over the radiator helps me with the icing aswell as trail debris that deep POW can hide some nice sticks.

Definitely screen off the rad
Awesome thanks for the replies, can I get the fan and screen from the yamaha dealership or do I need to order them online?

you can get them straight from a dealer but you can prolly find them cheaper online from a discount yamaha dealer. Your dealer may have to order the parts though.

what ever you do don't try and let your dealer convince you that you need a new wiring harness like they do you have an FX and it comes with the plug for the fan.
Thank you guys for the replies! You've been a huge help!

Oops, I forgot to ask - How do I mount the fan onto the radiator? My phazer fx is the base model, no reverse, etc. So I am wondering If I will need to modify my phazer to fit the fan?
Edit: thanks rnoonan!!

I mounted the fan on my 2007 FX myself. The fan has the bracket built onto it and it fits three mounting holes on the radiator (fan goes on the backside, towards the rear of the sled). If you order the fan yourself, don't forget to order the bolts too. I thought it would come with the fan assembly, so I had to go back and buy the bolts separately. I bought 4 bolts, pn#5GJ-12675-00-00, and 1 nut, pn# 5SL-12671-00-00. The part number of the fan assembly I bought was 8GJ-12405-00-00.
Hope that helps.

FX Standard, no reverse? Is this right? Just wondering because of the wiring harness mentioned.

Yeah, I've read repeatedly (and ask cannondale), the base model phazer (don't confuse FX model with the little "fx chassis" sticker on the rear of the sled) does not have provisions for the fan in the wiring harness, however the fan does bolt onto the radiator without any additional work (just need the fan and bolts). What I did was run a fuse protected wire to a 15A rated switch, mounted on the left side plastic below the handlebars, to power the fan. Works great. I started out riding with the fan off most of the time, only turning it on for big hill climbs or icey trails, but noticed my engine overheating once on a powdery trail after long stretches of near full throttle. After that I just said eff it and turn the damn thing on whenever I'm riding.

Well, I'm not exactly sure, just bought it this winter, it was a 2007 Phazer FX, had around 2000 km on it with no reverse i'm not sure what that is all about, hand warmers don't work to great:|
Machine itself runs great with the exception of the overheating issue, has the "fourstroke extreme" stickers and what not on it, not sure what the no reverse is all about, It gets kind of heavy lugging it around the garage by hand, especially when the snow packs in the tunnel.

Does the fan register onto the screen and is adjustable on screen? how does that work?

thermostatically controlled - when the temp of the coolant gets to a point it will turn the fan on - my usually only runs when i come off of the trail and ride through town back home. my light would come on before the fan install on the 07 FX and never did come on after.
