Me and my buddy bought two 2015 LTX se sleds brand new this year. Brought them to the dealer last week for first 500 mile service. Picked them up thursday night went for a ride and noticed mine was making a loud whining noise coming from the chaincase area. I pulled over and my buddy said the same thing, we thought it may have been a different oil they used or maybe chain was too loose before it was serviced. called the dealer friday to let him know and said he would get back to us on it. They called my buddy back today saying the mechanic over tightened them because he followed yamaha chain specs when he should have used arctic cat and to bring them back in to have it fixed. We put another 500 miles of hard riding on last weekend with the chain overtight and I noticed the noise isn't as loud as when I got it back but still there. Is the integrity of the chain compromised now that its been streched out from being over tight? Is there any other parts in the case that may need to be looked at? I have plans to ride all weekend and wouldnt be able to bring it back to the dealer till sunday with probly an additional 500 miles. Dont want to be stuck with a blown chaincase in the trails on a new sled.

take 5 mins and take the muffler off and back the chain tension off...yes it will wreck the chain, bearings and who knows after it grenades how much more damage and down time. Running 500 miles the first time was a big enough risk

Unplug the O2 sensor, unhook the spring and undo the three bolts. Muffler comes right out but the hard part is going to be trying to save the gasket. Once you get the muffler off finger tighten in and then back off one and a half turns. It's more of a pain in the #*$&@ than it is hard.

Ya a pain it is after the money I spent on somthing I can easily handle myself and got it right the first time. Just figured I'd give it to the dealer for the first service so it's documented and they know what to check for since I'm new to yamahas and four strokes.. I'll deffinatly be loosening the tensioner before my next ride.

STOP and adjust the chain finger tight and back off 1.5 turns now. take it back to dealer and have him open the chaincase and inspect the chains and gears and bearings. Mine started to whine and in less than 600 km everthing inside and the outside half of the case was scrap. try towing a machine with a seized track. may you have the luck of the Irish and not need any parts.

My dealer did the same thing last year made a hell of a whining noise he only backed it off a 1/4 turn. I never readjusted it and the whining went away as the chain stretched. 1700 mile latter it was checked again for adjustment and was turn out 1 1/4 turns 1 1/2 turns felt to lose. When the sleds came out Yamaha dealers didn't know the right spec. but now there is no excuse for doing the right adjustment.
