It wasn't the battery, it ended up being a bare wire shorting out against the frame. It was located just to the left of the handle bar column. There is a harness off the main harness that goes to towards the throttle body. I didn't get a chance to ride it yet so tomorrow will be the test. Good luck to me.

That happened to me last year. When the harness would get wet it would short out. Took the dealer two tries to figure it out. They just replaced the harness and no more problems. It is the only issue I have had with my Viper after 2500 miles.It wasn't the battery, it ended up being a bare wire shorting out against the frame. I'm having the same issue... bundle of wires kept giving me codes p0120 & p0122, if I touch them the machine surges at idle and or shuts off. Opened up the connector and cleaned the 4 prong fuse/bus bar(s) of minor corrosion and seems to be fine, but my Idle still; surges to 3200rpm and is an issueAny
any way u can give me a better idea what wire was shorting out ?

Hey guys. New to the forums here. I just bought my first yamaha viper. Shortly after I bought it the code P0508 came up. I sent it to a dealer and it worked for about 20 kms and it came up again. Battery is new. The code comes up and stays for a while then dissappears so I also feel it's electrical issue. Anyone able to show me where this harness is. Thanks

I would say it's probably what Beauryan Best says. Those connectors often give trouble and are the most overlooked.Hey guys. New to the forums here. I just bought my first yamaha viper. My idle issue was solved after I cleaned up the junction ends (uncap, pull the 4 prong fuse/link, clean, reinstall) which had minor corrosion. Fixed Symptoms was the machine would die if I kicked it, shuffled the wires by hand, or messed with the throttle lever.Thanks I'll try that but his comment said he still had problems at idle
Erratic Idle: I also cleaned the carbon out my IAC valve, throttle body butterflies, and ports with a q tip and throttle cleaner, and swapped my IACv with a Nytro part # (same, just different tip) that I had on hand. My throttle cable was New - aftermarket and takes on water/ice which added to the frustration
Manual says do not mess with IAC/ISC and to get a new throttle Body for 5-700$... it's BS. Just be careful with it as they are fragile. If/when replacing it, plug it in and cycle the PWR a few times to make sure it operates fine and goes back to neutral: before reinstalling the 3 tiny screws. Those screws are SS and I'd suggest a neodymium magnet or glue on your 1 foot long Philips (move gas tank back a few inches for access), or risk; they will fall into the engine bay.
I can't specifically say what fixed it as I kinda did it all at once, but most my issues I'd say revolved around the IACv. Full of carbon in TB. My machine was hit with a power surge by previous owner, over amped a dead battery to start it, and I had to replace almost everything electrical; but Viper IACv still visually operated when tested.
Make sure your intake boots are sealed properly, too... did that once and rpms were erratic.
Throttle cable can be a headache as well... currently: I replaced my Nytro's cable, and am having an idle phantom code headache; check engine light comes only at idle and can't pull a code, definitely my throttle cable tension is not set correctly (but we're having an ice storm and I got an inch on my machine).
