I've looked at some RTX's and a GT and the first thing I have noticed is the amount of wear on the footwells (where your feet go). Is this normal or just cause the sled was beat on?
I may stick to buying an ER so I can polish the aluminum tunnel.
Thanks, this is such a great site for info.

The paint on the tunnel of my 2008 Vector is also wearing. The wear became noticable after 2000 miles on the odo. And it isn't from "beating" on my sled. These are just normal trail miles. I think Yamaha is just using a poor quality paint, as the black tunnel paint on my ZR held up nicely for 10 years, 8000+ miles. Much like the silver paint on the mono rear suspension arms - it is not durable and just wears out quickly. I think the tunnel on my Cat was actually powdercoated as opposed to the Yam which appears to have just normal paint on it.

My 06 GT has the exact same problem. This is normal on every painted Apex I have seen.

I had the same wear on my 07 apex rtx.
I installed a set of yellow sno-grips on the running boards and they work awesome. I had to bang down some of the diamond punchouts flush where the grips go. They work and look great.
Cheers,
Rick.

Anyone try the POR15 product?
That stuff sticks!!! You can brush it, and the brush marks flow out. I am going to try some.

WE have a 2006 Apex GT and a 2007 Apex RTX, both with the black painted tunnel.
There was obvious wear when there was only a few hundred miles on the sleds.
You can always wait until spring, mask it off, and try painting them again.

If you pm me your email addy,I'll snap a couple pics of my grips and mail em to ya.
I have a 07 rtx and before i even rode it i put clear sticker material on tunnel where your boots rub.I bought the type motocrossers put on their number plates to keep them on and from scratching. Worked great and you cant see it to much. I custom cut a piece to fit around the rivets, and after 2000 miles its holding on great. I believe it was from SoCal decals, but any moto magazines have listings for places.

its very easy cause the warrior comes with circles instead of diamonds cut out....but they line up pretty much already,so you are just sorta cutting the circles into diamonds, use a small knife(breakoff tips style)
I did mine in about an hour, take your time, and lay it over footwell after each cut you make, also i cut a little bit out of inside where tunnel bracket is,so it sat down nicely....
5200+miles now look brand new,no peeling.
