Amsoil is the only thing I run in the 998.
The rest get rotella t6 5w-40, even my ktm. It's one stout oil.

Idk?!?! I've been using 0w30 since new. I'd be more likely to be concerned with the oils initial weight when temperatures are below -20°f.I have to credit knappattack for 0W-30 choice over 0W-40 or 5W-30 or 10W-40, etc. A few less HP lost pumping oil, better oiling at start-up, and less drag at high RPM.
I've never even started my sled below 0°f.
As far as Amsoil goes, I always thought it to be a pyramid scheme to attract new dealers and have shied away from it.
Appears I've been wrong.

If you follow the Rat540 blog and his oil testing, you'll find the Rotella T6 is not a very good oil at all. I ran it in my bikes and ATV's till I actually wipped a cam lobe in my ATV. Then I ran across Rats blog after doing some research and found that Rotella T6 is not a good oil for gas engines at all. Its very low on the list for wear protection and unfortunately I found out the hard way. I wouldn't even put it in my lawn mower anymore.
So I wouldn't call it stout at all, I'd call it crap oil for a gas engine.

Yep, seriously! It the only oil I’ve ever had an oil related failure with. And seeing how poor it rates on Rat540’s list I can see why. It may be fine in a diesel where it was designed I don’t know. I just know my ATV started slowing dramatically, and it was because the intake valves were barely moving anymore. Took it apart and the intake cam lobe was wiped. Only use Mobile 1 0-40 FS European Formula in all my engines that requore 40 weight, including my wet clutch motorcycles and ATV’s. No problems since. Mobile 1 0-40 is the highest rated 40 weight on Rats blog by a wide margin. I use it in my Biturbo Mercedes, and all my Audi’s as well. Mobile 1 0-40 is an actual proven stout oil!
For vehicles with 30 weight requirements, I use Quaker State full synthetic 5-30, which was rated number one on rats blog. It has since decreased a bit in pressure and wear resistance, but it is still rated number one if I recall. It’s right up there with the good Amsoil‘s, and you can buy it at Walmart at a bargain of a price, same with the mobile 1.

That one is tough to explain, otherwise?!?! Could have been a slightly softer compound used in the manufacturing process of that particular cam? Like, built on a Monday sort of thing. Nothing in this world is 100% perfect. Idk...Yep, seriously! It the only oil I’ve ever had an oil reloaded failure with. And seeing how poor it rates on Rat540’s list I can see why. My '06 6.0 and '03 5.3 combined ran for 400k using mostly Walmart (SuperTech) oil. The Midwest bodies will disintegrate to nothing before those motors blow. Lol
This is kinda why I don't get involved in a particular oil is better debate.
Again, I only pointed this oil out cuz of price point.

I hear ya, but Honda ATV's are bulletproof. I too had been using Rotella T, but quit using it after having that cam failure and reading Rats Blog. Diesel oil belongs in diesels. Gas oil belongs in gas engines. None of the diesel oil rates high for his pressure testing and should not be used in gas engines according to him, and I'm a believer in that now too, back in the day we didn't know any better.

I've ran all kinds of oil in my Nytro. I've seemed to settle on Mobil 1 0W40. It started last winter at -32C without issues. I put 4000 kms on that oil.

One thing Rat540 points out multiple times in the blog is if whatever oil you're using seems to be working, and you've not had engine issues (cam lobe wear, bearing wear, etc) only means that whatever your oil you're using is good enough to adequately protect the engine. But that doesn't mean there is any "wiggle" room meaning the oil may be performing only just barely good enough, nothing more. It certainly doesn't mean there isn't a better oil that will prevent wear much better for a longer period of time. That one is tough to explain, otherwise?!?! Could have been a slightly softer compound used in the manufacturing process of that particular cam? Like, built on a Monday sort of thing. Nothing in this world is 100% perfect. Idk...

How often do you do oil samples on your stuff? I do it ever season on the 998 and ever other oil change on the atv's.If you follow the Rat540 blog and his oil testing, you'll find the Rotella T6 is not a very good oil at all. Beautiful car! I used Castrol gtx 50 racing oil in my 69 GTO Judge, years ago, pennzoil is excellent, and have used mobil1 0 40 in the rx1s and everything since, different weights for the cars and truck, rotella t synthetic for the diesels, and then use the used m1 as bar oil in my chain saws! The bars have virtually no burr like they used to using bar oil. We burn firewood for 50 years and have a sawmill so they get used. Actually mobil 1 in every 4 stroke, down to old crappy push mowers! I have seen the 5 quart jugs for 24 online with Walmart rollbacks and then I stock up. For 2 strokes, only BRP oil. Amsoil in the club 2 stroke groomers. Amsoil is good stuff. Put 6 quarts (syn trans) in my cummins manual 6 speed last year, but doesnt shift any different than the mopar fluid..lol...nv5600 trans is tractor like!LOL, nice. I would bet the owners manual on that didn't even suggest synthetic oil. I had a 2019 Camaro SS, stupidity on my part, and wrapped it into a tree. First and only accident so far.

Yes its great and made for diesels, my old Perkins recommends shell Rimula, close to rotella, so old school diesels like it. But theyd probably run on mud...Yep, seriously!
