I have 800 miles on my FX and here are a few observations
*The sled has good power and will run 60-70 mph all day but loose snow realy saps the power and severely limits top end and crusing speed.
*It is not as good as I thought it would be in deep snow, my RX1 is much better in deep snow (no substtute for 140 hp and lots of track speed)
*The ride and handling are great, I added 96 1.175" woodys studs and 4.5" shaper bars. I also pulled up the limiter one hole and reduced the ski shock preload 3/8"-increased ski comp clickers 4 clicks. This sled rails the tight and twisty stuff (allmost magic) Rutted trashy trails are not an issue.
*I consistantly get 16-17 mpg and have used no oil.
*I have not had any overheating issues.
*I have to add a radiator guard to prevent damage to rad fins.
*I blocked off the tunnel with a sheet of 1/16" aluminum due to severe icing ing the tunnel preventing proper suspesion movement.(this is a cure for this problem)
*I had gone thru 3 sets of front inside idler wheels (warped and bent). I machined .060" from all surfaces that touch the inner bearing race and installed the old heavy duty wheels from an 03 RX1. The RX1 wheels are at least 3x thicker and will not fail. The mounts must be machined to accept the wider bearing of the old style wheel while keeping the wheel centered between the track driver lugs.
* I have also had my #1 cylinder headpipe shear off at the flange. The factory weld only attaches to the end of the pipe and is prone to cracking. Wrather that installing another OEM pipe that will fail, I tig welded the pipe and I feel that tis will be stronger that stock. If your sled is getting louder, check your head pipes!
This sled is very Very fun, But it has have more issues than all of my previous 8 Yamaha's combined (including the 87 exciter!!!!!)
Yamaha need to fix all of these issues for 2008 or they will lose their reputation for reliability and quality.

Agree with you.
Stock track is ridiciolus for everything else than sledding on hard packed trails.
The new revers system really sucks and after I looked inside the seperat reverse case I cant imagine that this can be a reliable solution. There is a little tiny chain inside and I have already seen one chain broken.... After I saw this I havent used my reverse other than backing it of my trailer..
The plastic panels in front are way to bendable letting snow entering inside the engine compartment causing ice/stearing problems.
That big stupid hole in back of the tunnel should never have been there.
Hope yamaha will solve this problems and also add the mods to the already sold sleds to.
Other than the already mentioned things I have had no other problems with my fx. And after I added the ulmer cluch kit and the freeride track I really cant get enough of it![Div20 ;)! ;)!](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/div20.gif)

In respnse to the previous post, I have both an RX-1 and a Phazer FX. As far as deep snow goes, I can tell you digging the Phazer out of the hole you get buried in is substantially easier than digging the RX-1 out. Just my back's opinion!!!

DaveRX1 - did pulling the front skid up one hole on the limiter strap help reduce the front end push? I have turned up the compression on the front shocks and that helped. I was wondering if taking up the limiter strap was the way to go or install a more agressive carbide. Whats your thoughts?

I now have no push
Pull up limiter on hole.
Reduce ski preload 3/8"
Get some 4.5" shaper bars
This will end ANY push, but is still very well ballanced
