Phazer Motor Failure at 7218 km's - 4511 Miles

This is the news I have been dreading to hear.Darn near every bolt and nut has come loose on my Phazer but none on motor itself. Was hoping they wouldnt.Such a simple thing.Sorry for your luck Yellowknife.Hope you get satisfaction.

the balance shaft came loose?! wtf? that had to have been a fluke, crazy. be sure to let us know how your warrantee works out. a freind of mine just rolled his GT over to 9200kms so there is hope....

No, add your .02 please.

I'm getting the feeling this is really isolated and i have only heard from one member on here that theirs failed - and there's members with more miles on theirs than I have on mine, so that's all good news.

My father's 07 GT had this happen last year. It was covered and they had his sled up and running within a week or two though. It had around 2000km's on it. I was told it had to do with the tolerances on one of the counter balancing shafts but that it was corrected for the 08's. Hopefully this isn't wide spread through out the 07's.

Another thing I was wondering about the new motor which is to be shipped December 11th, is if it has the fuel mapping updates and decompression updates that my previous motor was given due to the cold weather here.

Man this sucks..I got almost 2,000 on my 07 GT and now I don't even wanna ride it whenever I get the urge because i don't trust it. I added Amsoil and I guess the rest will be up to the motor helping itself hold together..only thing I have to complain about so far is the extremly loud noise coming from the track like everyone else says...haha

I assume that it is going to be an 08 or 09 motor. So yes it will have the updates. I replied on your thread in the general section by saying that I have had the phazer motor blow as well, the same way it happended with yours, with the noise coming from the clutch. Anyway at the time my engine blew, so many of the engine parts were on backorder until the sledding season was over, and it was only late january or early febuary. Anyway we called and complained to Yamaha and they ended shipping us a motor from a new sled on the showroom floor somewhere, which happened to be an 08 motor. It did take a long time and the phazer was out for alot of the sledding season, but the sled now starts and runs much better, or at least I think it does. It seems the phazer motor is the only fourstroke Yamaha has come out with updates for, all the other motors they hit the nail right on the head the first time.

i thought the genesis extreme 4cylender came out of a street bike? wasn't the 80FI genesis designed specifically for this application? anyways bound to have reliability issues with a new motor and new sled...yami just needed some time to work out the kinks, it's just a real shame that some of us und up with the short stick in these situations.

Way back there were quite a few that supposedly had a gearbox noise.I heard one and it sounded similar to yours but not that loud.We were all told it was a case of tolerances among the gears and if you made a 1000mi you were good to go.Maybe it aint so.I hope it is since I am within 1000 mi of you Yellowknife and mine has had a rapping noise similar to yours but not anywhere near as loud as your vid since day one.No Warrantee on it.Oh well may be excuse to go stroker and porting!

Ah just forget about it.Its really something that is out of our hands.I have confidence if its proven to be a issue Yamaha will stand by its motors whether in warranty or not. They always have in past.Would like to be Proactive but this is out of my league for sure.If anyone comes up with a way of checking I will dive right in but otherwise just going to ride it.You will forget about it within a mile ;)!

I know, I know......

My dealer hates the sight of me as I've been in and out of there soo many times for all of my other 'First time, we've never heard of that" issues...

I can't imagine how long I'll be down during the riding season if my motor lets loose....
