Phazer MT Used as Crossover


Its got 2" lugs though, thatd be fine if all you rode was powder, but you'd run into some serious hyfax wear problems when trail riding, especially on hardpack or when roadriding.
I think Yamaha should (and probably will sometimes in the future) come out with a 136" Phazer with 1" or 1.25"lugs.
 
I honestly wouldnt want a sled with lugs shorter than 1". 1.25" would be OK but I think 1.5" is a little too tall for trail riding.
It might be OK going to and from the play areas in the mountains, but where I ride (where hardpack and patchy bare spots can be common), its too tall, IMO.
 
I talked to the rep at the Burlington VT show.. he said he liked the MT as a crossover so we talked about the tall lugs an hyfax wear. He said just cut the lugs down to where you would want them. Seems like a lot of cutting but should work good. He showed me that the lug has like a tab that would be a good spot to cut it at.
 
I have a 03 RX1 mountain with 2" lug and dont have much problem. I belive the Phazer Mountain would be cool for boondocking. I am concerned about the radiator position, and it might get plugged with powder. I am going to buy the Phazer Mountain, as soon as I seel my 03 RX1.
 
I found that you need the rear exchanger for hardpack conditions on the RX-1, especially in the High Arctic near the Northwest Passage. :drink:
But otherwise, it helps with the hookup when you use it as a worksled.

My thoughts exactly - great for michigan boondocking.

Of course, the shock offerings are not very trail friendly...

I wonder if the gearing should be changed slightly for "flatland" boondocking. Should this be done through the chaincase sprockets, clutching, or through the track drivers?

Any idea on the top speed of the stock mountain phazer?
 
Im sure that the gearing on the Phazer Mountain is going to be differant than the others, because it takes a fair amont of power to run the 2" track. If the top speed is 80 on the regular Phazer, expect about 65-70 on the Mountain. Which is plenty fast enough, but I want it to get there fast too. Would't be suprized that the drivers are differant size too, there isn't much room in the front tunnel area.
 
My Mtn (06) came with high alt. gearing and clutching. Put in the stock Apex gearing and clutching and it rips.

Just checked the site, but no where does it state that the tracks are 14" wide, only gives the length and lug height for all tracks. I wouldn't take it for granted, probably not all the accessories for the Phazers are updated yet.
 
I prefer the taller lugs, as during spring melt, it really helps with the hookup on water puddles or slushy snow. Sliders are cheap and easier to change, but you cannot change your lugs when you are in a situation and that is more important for me to have the extra lug height, than to worry about hifax wear.
