I'm almost convinced to pull the trigger on a new Phazer FX- however, I have a couple reservations. It seems - sitting on one in the showroom, that the seat is very hard. How's it going to be going for longer rides? Also, I've seen reports that the engine vibration is pretty bad-- is this true?
Thanks for your help

Where have you seen reports of engine vibration being bad? I have not heard that from anyone that has actually ridden this sled. In general, engine vibration is not a characteristic typically found on Yamaha sleds.

I rode this sled last march at the hillcross race, at Cascade Mountain. Yamaha was there offering test rides. I rode the Phazer for 20 minutes, twice. I was gonna buy one...was! The vibration was incredible. Not something I want to deal with all day and night. The handling left something to be desired. Lots of body roll in the corners. Not a corner-carver by any means. The sound was very docile, and the machine didn't feel sporty...excelleration-wise. Might as well wait until they put two 450's together. And maybe they'll then iron-out the vibration issues and handling deficiencies.

A couple newbi's playing games here I think!!!

yea i hear you i have no idea where you guys r getting this bc i have one, took it out on the grass. It could beat out my rage in acceloration up to about 60 and than start falling behind. As for the engine vibration there is more than a 120 hp four stroke but not like "Litre1000" is making it sound like at all.

Yes I agree with with phazer dude, there is some vibration but I think its just like my F7 was. Not a big issue for me yet, but if it is I will buy an isovibe system

Nothing Vibrates quite like my XCR 600...
So the Phazer is a breathe of fresh air in that department...

No "newbies" playin' games here! There could be a chance the machine I rode in march is nothing like the machine that hit the showroom floors. A lot of time has passed since then. We were interviewed by the factory Yamaha reps after our test rides. We told them about the vibration and the "feel' of performance, or lack thereof. Have you ever heard of "one-off preproduction" machines? Maybe your a newbie - to the world of snowmobiling and the things that occur within it.

I think that the show room floors have a little modifications to them, but i think that the sled you drove was beat to heel by other riders. I think that you should test on out right now and than compare.

Believe me when I say I would LOVE to test drive one of the production sleds! I was very excited at the thought of buying one of these things. But after my Vector experience, I think I'll wait a year and see what develops. Never buy the first year machine they say... I should have known better! Shame on me.

Until the season starts and people get some miles on their Phazer, there is no need to speculate on engine vibration on production model sleds. There is a guy up in Thompson MB that has ridden his already and a guy that has taken his up into the mountains in BC. Neither one reported engine vibration issues.

I didn't respond right away because I just wrote this thread off. The question was legitimate but I agree I think some newbs are just playing games. Anyone that actually rode a Phazer wouldnt make those statements simply because they are completely inaccurrate. But seeing that the times when the replies were made are hours apart... maybe Litre1000 just likes providing inaccurate info, so I will respond.
A little research will answer all your questions Yamy07, and my advice would be to not listen to someone who doesnt actually own a machine.
I will share my thoughts after I rode the Phazer the first time for a 45 minute stretch, these are the things that crossed my mind.
1) Bottom end is more like a 600-700, it really rips when you get traction.
2) The front ski stance appears to be really wide.
3) Handling, seat and feel, feels just like the YZ250F, really. Its funny, Litre1000... lots of body roll, dont compare this to your car. I am sure when you ride a bike you don't complain about body roll too... but the only reason you'd have the "body rolling" on a bike is because you weren't leaning into the corners. The suspension is tight, no complaints about body roll, its very comparable to the rev chassis. As for the seat, I didn't find it hard or uncomfortable. It didnt even cross my mind, but if a percentage of the riders found it so, I am sure there would be gel seats out soon enough anways.
Personally, I find the seat issue like... well put it like this... imagine if at the starting gate of a MotoX race, all the bikes are lined up and one racer says to the other, "Man my seat is really chaffing me!"
This machine is suppose to be crossover to sledding from a bike. It was targeted at a younger audience. Its not Grandpa's touring mobile. That said I bought the GT because I waned all the fun the Phazer has to offer in the "fun" department, but I still want the windshield and comfort if I do want to go out for a day on the trails.
4) The sound is cool, sounds like 2 cylinders fire in rapid succession, followed by a 3 stroke delay, due to the firing order. Made it sound different, but that sound combined with the torque enhancing system and the bottom end of a 4 stroke, brought a grin to my face. No it doesn't sound anything like a 600 2 stroke Twin with a straight pipe on it, at 8000 RPM. This machine rarely even hits its redline simply because it doesnt need to be there to get you where you want to go.
5) I love the digital gauges! They look awesome and offer digital RPM, speed, variable Thumb + grip warmers along with an accurate fuel display. Combine that with electric start and reverse... on one of Yamaha's least expensive sleds. Find that from another manufacture.
6) The break-in smell... is really wierd. Kinda sweet, but not coolant sweet, just wierd. New machine smell, you only get it once
Litre1000: I never remembered noticing or currently notice a vibration issue. Frick, you complain about vibration then your like I can't wait until they come out with the 450F version, uhhh yeah because increasing cylinder displacement to a 900 Twin will solve any vibration issues!? Go ride a Fusion 900 if you want Vibration.
I never rode the DEMO's, so maybe thats your saving grace. I've heard people say the production machines are very different.

Anyways, all in all, to me this sled is the "shiz-nit", exactly what I wanted. That and if you run it for 2 minutes in your garage your not going to be gagging on smoke, and same goes for the guy behind you on the trail.

Well, like Swiss Sledder told me, you need to back off dude! I was referring to the machine I rode back in March. But since comprehension is a skill and not something you're born with, you obviously don't realize we could be comparing apples to oranges (preproduction sleds vs production sleds). So, since your Phazer is void of any "objectionable" vibration, maybe the 900cc version will be just as refined, or is that another concept which you find hard to grasp?
