I am looking at a 07 with 3500 miles, how long are these motors good for. I am coming off of a 03 f5 and was wondering what the power would be like compare to the f5. Is there anything specific i should look for, it has all the updates done as well. thanks

depends...is it a GT or an FX?
my FX would pull the F5's for a long time but he would get away from me on top due to gearing. A GT might be closer on top. I go about 240 and I raced a guy that was about 150, so given same driver it depends. A phazer is a different animal than an F5.

Thats a pretty fast 500.I could run with them up to 50 or so then mine gets beat by the 03F5.Guy may have had some mods though.

Who knows with the motors - 4 strokes are supposed to last a long time but these 80Hp are high revving so I don't know if that will affect their durability or not and they are relatively new (2007). I have seen on here reports of engine failures but that may be due to adding turbochargers.
Would be interesting to hear what mileage guys have on their machines - I have ~ 7700Km (4800mi) on my '08 and would like to get at least 30,000.

If well maintained, and taken care of will last much longer than 30 000. Remember the engines built by yami.

I keep hearing that as an argument for durability which is good. Too bad they didn't put some of that quality into the frontends! I know, I know you can't have it all, they all break, blah, blah, blah.

price would be a factor as well. have you looked around to see what they go for. i've seen them for $4000-4500 w/ around 1k miles.
I found a 09 mtx with 500 miles and extras for 4850, is that a good deal, cause I think it is.

Sounds like it is a real good buy if you are in Canada where the prices are so high on the new ones.bigal06 said:I found a 09 mtx with 500 miles and extras for 4850, is that a good deal, cause I think it is.

These sleds are a great beginning but are sub par on reliability, especially since they were designed for " rough trail" usage. There,s not much left that hasn't broken on mine and I just started riding modern sleds last year. I had a 1990 safari that was infenitely more reliable than the phazer. I'm torn. I love riding it but I am always waiting for something to fail. I don't have much experience with other brands but if yamaha is supposed to be the industry leader, then what are the other brands like?
