Recently bought an 2008 phazer with 850 miles that's been sitting for about 2 years. PO put new plugs in it and drained the old gas and put fresh in. Ran good so I bought it. Got home and took it out to ride around the field, and it ran good. Tipped it on its side when carving, and hit the kill switch. Tipped it back up, and let it sit before firing it back up, rode for about 10 more mins. Was about 80% throttle cruising through some powder and the sled falls on its face making a loud bogging sound and I fear the worst (toasted engine) so I limp it to the road and load it on the trailer to take a look. Current situation:
Oil and gas are full
Coolant full
No check engine lights
Oil light never came on
Good spark on both plugs
Good compression on both cylinders
Plugs were light tan
Fuel pump cycles
New battery
Ground block update done
Starts up on 1 cylinder (throttle side opposite pto)
I can pull the coil from the pto side cylinder and there's no change of engine sound
The pto plug is dry and there's no smell of gassy/rich condition from tailpipe
I'm thinking somehow the pto fuel injector got plugged up? Is this a thing with these sleds? I've never heard of an injector plugging up, the sock in the tank should catch everything in the gas. The only thing I can think of is the wiring broke or got chewed, or the fuel sat so long in the rail that it got all gunky and it jammed in the injector screen and plugged it off. Any insight guys? I'll be pulling it apart this weekend to investigate. I've never heard of an injector failing / plugging closed while running.

I also tapped on the injector while it was running and it didn't do anything

that injector might be plugged full of crud from it sitting once you started using the machine.

I would try new plugs even if a plug has good spark out of the engine it might not when under compression.

Have you tried swapping the coils from side to side and see what happens when you unplug the PTO side. If it dies, then it's the coil, which is now on the mag side. If the same PTO cylinder is affected (coils are good), try swapping the injectors the same way and see if the dead cylinder follows. The fact you get no.gas smell leads me to think it's the injector or its wiring.

I first thought it was a plug issue, but if the sled wasn't getting spark on that 1 cyl, shouldn't the spark plug be soaked with fuel and there be a definite gassy smell? The plugs are NGK CR8EKB's and I couldn't find if this was an accetable plug to run.
I'm thinking that either it's a wiring problem or the injector plugged up. I'll put the sled in diagnostic mode and cycle the injectors to hear if they're trying to click. Does this sound plausible?

I flip-flopped the plugs and coils when I reassembled and the pto cylinder still won't fire

What about the injectors?
But you are right. If it was an ignition problem, it would be wet but should systematically check everything to be sure. The injector or its wiring would be suspect next.

Haven't tried testing the injectors, but I will Friday. It has to be the wiring or ones plugged right off. I'll do the diagnostic mode injector cycle first, and if I can hear it clicking I'll know it's plugged off. If I sound I've probably got wiring issues

See my post a few days ago with a similar issue. After the machine has sat unused for a long period, it runs great for a few starts, but when shut off, one or both injectors will stick shut. I did find a way to clean them. When running the diagnostics, the clicking sound is very quiet, but can be heard fully assembled.

I saw your post and hope I can clean them and get riding again. I'll post what I find tomorrow night! I just fear it's bound to happen again until all the junk works out of the lines and fuel rail

Used the sled's diagnostic mode to test both injectors, and could hear each one "pop" but the pto side sounded weaker and unpon looking down the throttle bodies showed it wasn't spraying any fuel. I took them out and sure enough, I can't even get any air through the pto injector when blipping it on and off with 12v. Currently soaking in injector cleaner, I hope I can save it vs having to buy a new one. I can force air / cleaner through it backwards, but not front ways. I removed the filter in the injector and didn't see any crap stuck behind it, so I'm baffled. I can feel the injector "click" but it's like something's preventing the fuel from coming out. Almost like a 1 way valve. I'm really stumped. Could the pintle break off or unscrew from the electromagnet in the injector?

Bought 2 leftover fuel injectors at the dealer (1 and a spare) the new Yamaha Viper uses the same injector part #! She's running good now, I will say though just letting the injectors sit on the shelf from the parts place made one a little sticky. Make sure to blip them with 12v before you put them in. Shooting some wd40 in them would be a bad idea either before starting. Can't hurt.
Injector part for both the Phazer and Viper # is 8GC-13761-00-00
A lot of the viper guys take the injectors off when they build up the engines so takeoff injectors are readily available. Happy riding guys! I'll be updating this thread if I cut apart out my old malfunctioning injector to see why it stopped working.
