it's heavy and it's slow.
It weighs as much as a MM (within 10-20 lbs.) AND it's 20 Hp LESS than that sled (the MM) that is now 10 years OLD!!!!
Entry level sled with NO potential to be anything more than a heavy 600 MM for the wife. Other than it looks fancier it is worse allot of ways than the 600 MM. You could ake the arugument the 600 MM was better here....
I want to someone jump this thing like yamaha's plan and marketing campaign shows???? How could you go fast enough??? You might jump it short distances but that's it. 14" track??? can you say trenching Firecat!!!
Wow.
Here's the sad part. I am going to buy one! I am a Yamaha loyalist, but I wish for so much more. The vector is not a mountain sled. 700lbs and 120 hp. Niether is the phazer with about the same bad power to wieght ratio.....The yamaha struggle continues!!!
Phazer and a 800-700 twin 2 stroke would have been insane really. Hell even the 700 MM motor would have been a better bet! Maybe the 600 MM. I like four strokes but the power to weight ratio yamaha is PLAQUED with never ends. THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE "LITE" PHAZER!!!!!!!!! SKIDOO HAS 160 HP SLED THAT WHEIGHT condierably LESS...
The pic below is a pic of me jumping the Vector. Just to climb up to hit the jump was a challenge (that's with Nttrous helping it!!) Then to get the speed into it was always a problem.....the phazer. Couldn't make it there with a prayer. and all 80Hp wouldn't push you qiuck enough to hit it.
The other pic is a pic of the vector from last year AFTER I had stripped and bought everything I could to lighten it up. it weighed 550 dry. Not bad, BUT it still was way to big. the phazers ratio is way worse. Can't say it enough.
If yamaha is going to make a mountain sled make one. i AM TIRED OF WAITING. Then to have them quailfy this one as lite is just the killer!!! ANd then we all rally around yamaha and tell everyone it's so greatly engineered. I don't want engineering....I WANT A LITE SLED!!!!!
It is the WORST power to weight ratioed mt. sled they have ever made. Period. And coming from Yamaha....that's pretty sad!!!!!!!!!

For the most part, you’re right. The Phazer isn’t the greatest thing sliced bread but once all the bugs in this are worked out (and there will be) this thing is going to rock! There is already talk of a turbo and there’s always NOS to help a little. This is just a debut of the FX chassis and we all know there’s much more to come.
I have a 04 RX1M and I have added weight by installing reverse and a few other things and it still kicks a$$. (Of course I’m a flat lander) And believe it or not, I have had my RX to 105 MPH. The speedo may not be 100% correct but for a 600+ lbs machine to go that fast is crazy.

Does anybody have any information on the break down of sled sales? Meaning what portion of sleds that are sold are specifically Mountain Sleds vs Trail Selds? I have no idea how it breaks down across the board, it would be interesting to know.

You might be right on most if not all your points; but we should look at the big picture also and remember you have to learn to walk before you run.
I think Doo is the only MFGr truly working to make a 2 stroke emissions compliant. And they are not making progress by leaps and bounds… What’s going to happen when the hammer drops on the compliance? Yamaha will be way ahead of the other three. you can also make any motor make lots of power and also make the sled light but at a cost both in dependability and the price tag… (cats are fast out of the box but how dependable are they?)
Just my 2 cents

HP HP HP - Bah! Not everyone buys a sled because it has mondo HP and goes 120 MPH. They also buy them IF they can afford them too. I think for the sticker and what you get, the Phazers are very promissing models for this market.
The only thing Yamaha has, at present to fill this niche, is left over, 2-stroke Venoms. How can you successfully argue that 4-strokes are superior if you're still making 2-strokes too? I think it's a SMART move on Yamaha's part.

WELL SAID
Man there's a lot of errors in this post
It weighs as much as a MM (within 10-20 lbs.) AND it's 20 Hp LESS than that sled (the MM) that is now 10 years OLD!!!!
NOT: A stock MM was NOT 500lbs, nor was it 511 like the brochure said, more like 530
Entry level sled with NO potential to be anything more than a heavy 600 MM for the wife. Other than it looks fancier it is worse allot of ways than the 600 MM. You could ake the arugument the 600 MM was better here....
?, It's a 500class sled and competes head to head with other 500's, sounds like you should buy an MM600 then, right?
The vector is not a mountain sled. 700lbs and 120 hp. Niether is the phazer with about the same bad power to wieght ratio.....The yamaha struggle continues!!!
What scale did you use to get 700lbs? or are you talking about a full sled?
Phazer and a 800-700 twin 2 stroke would have been insane really. Hell even the 700 MM motor would have been a better bet! Maybe the 600 MM.
Yamaha is done developing 2 stroke sleds. period. end of story
THEY ARE EXCITED ABOUT THE "LITE" PHAZER!!!!!!!!! SKIDOO HAS 160 HP SLED THAT WHEIGHT condierably LESS...
Cmaaaan, show me this 160hp doo that weighs CONSIDERABLY LESS, RT's are 600lbs and 800's dont make 160hp and are not as light as the brochure indicates
Besides, this is a kid's sled, this is like slamming a TTR125 because it wont keep up to a YZ250F
This sled is the coolest snowmobile ever made and no other manufacturer can match it, it has "Future Models" written all over it unless everyone tears it apart and forces the factory to make the same old crap just like a Doo or Cat

Heres a post I have done in another forum in the general section for all the people bashing a sled and comparing it to others that are not in the same categories:
(((Lets compare apple with apple...2 80 hp mountain sled. The phazer mountain lite and the Arctic-Cat m5.
M5: 8300$ (can), 141`track, 455lbs, no reverse, no electric start.
Phazer MT lite: 9200$ 144`track, 489lbs, reverse, electric start.
So let`s bring the m5 up to the Phazer...
Reverse kit +/-750$ + reverse lever kit 180$ Electric start kit +/-740$ Add 15 to 20 pound to each option
Now the M5 is 495lbs and a cost of 9790$ And no labour included.
Ho ha forgot something else...I think the cat is direct drive...Will also need new brake caliper to fit the chaincase, new drives shafts, new driven pulley...so it will weight way more than what I count (495lbs and 9790$)and much more expansive too!
So now.. is the Phazer a too heavy 4 stroke sled? A too much expansive ride?
Can somone can say something against Yamaha and the new Phazer again?
I think they made their homework way better than the other 3 sled builder on this one.
If this model is not what you want or like stop telling negative thing about it.
Im still a cat guy by the way...not for long...
MartinÂÂ))))
So this sum it up. If Yamaha wanted a top hp sled they would have done it. But the phazer is not one. They have the apex line for the big hp hunter.
From a future mountain lite owner.

Abc,
Welcome to the site.
When you get to ride your new sled, would you give us a ride report?

Cmaaaan, show me this 160hp doo that weighs CONSIDERABLY LESS, RT's are 600lbs and 800's dont make 160hp and are not as light as the brochure indicates........THE O7' DOODS WILL BE JUST AS i DESCRIBED.
SKI-DOO WILL HAVE COMPLIATE TWO stroke motors. They won't drop the ball.
My attack with the Sc doesn't work. The shrger works but the 8 tooth drivers and the HUGE packing of snow as it clears the the front heat exhchanger really slows it down. Oh yea...and it's still HEAVY!!
phazer doesn't replace ANY of the models they put to bed. The viper or venom. $$ compared to other OEMs phazer dosen't stack up. less power = or more weight.
700lb.s is full sled. A REAl sled wieght.
I know yamaha is out of the 2 stroke market. What if they weren't is my point. Lightweight twin in the apex chasiss....think of it!!!
All I want is for yamaha engineers not to sit back for another 7 years and think they have it made. where is the semi-to-at-least comaprable lightwieght mt. sled???? Not the vector. Not the apex?? I think yamaha is going to sit down and let us soak up the "cool" looking sled. A mistake.
