"Jackass".....I said it.
And a Yamaha loyalist.
You can be both I am afraid. If you have a response to something say it. I haven't leveled an attack on anyone. Don't be a meathead making mathead responses. State what you think.
I have rode Yamahas for years and allot harder than most people ride their sled. I TRY to ride them like a lighwieght sled. My opionions are based on that....
Just the facts as I see them.
What do you see?

What i doo see is a fair amount of people on here that has got rid of......or wants to get rid of there 1000 doo's for a 1000 yamaha.I guess maybe for mountain riding weight is a bigger deal, but for trail riding it's not......and yamaha sells more trail sleds than mountain sleds.....as do all the manufactures.

That is a great point. hadn't really thought about it that way. For the mountains a Yamaha needs a little more this and that. And the wieght is a huge issue.
If I lived back east Yamaha, and yes the Phazer, would be perfect. My rant has been specfically about the mountian market to some extent. If I was talking about you guys back east and you needs I would have little concerns about the phazer.

After seeing your pictures of jumping sleds out west, I understand that the 80hp sled can't work for you. As a lighter weight trail sled with presumably good handling, I think this is a great direction for Yamaha. I am seriously thinking about one, but it is a big step down in pwer from the Apex I'm currently riding.
I'm going to Munising to ride one March 10, will ride it against some of our other sleds, APEX, VMAX 600XT, '98 Phazer, and see how it does.
Throw 100hp in this thing and it makes the decision much easier!

It's only a mistake if they don't sell, and from what I've been hearing, this is not the case (Yamaha has gone from #4 in total sleds sold to #2).
I really don't understand why you would be buying a Phazer. It sounds like you'd be a lot happier on a 450 lb., 160 hp Summit.

I agree with the assessment, if you want a lighter machine, it comes with its own issues, namely breakability and durability.
I prefer a durable machine, if it is a little heavier, I can live with it. Too many riders want their cake and icing too...It comes down to the liability issues, and that is why most modded machines are no longer insurable, as they are no longer covered by warranty upon modding.
I will try the Phazer and send my notes to Yamaha, as I have always done with all my machines. Anything not up to par will be noted and included. To each his own.

I have to agree. I will belive it when I see that.
As far as your rant in this thread. I can understand your complaints since your a mountain rider.
As long as I have been riding Yamaha, they have never beeen king of the mountains. Why? Because as it was stated they sell a hell of a lot more trail sleds...period. So why would they really bother focusing on the mountain line up? As any biz...you go where the money is and where the market takes you. In this case it's trail sleds. Just look at the overall line up for ALL FOUR brands. They make a hell of alot more trail and touring sleds than mountain sleds.
I don't know why you ride blue if your in the mountains? Obviously your not happy....why not try something else? I knwo I would if I were that unhappy...
I myself live in the midwest so for me the weight is not that big of a deal.
I will take the fit, finish, quality and reliability of a Yamaha any day of the week if it means I have 20-30 more pounds on my sled. Besides...most guys I ride with weigh that much more than me anyhow...so who cares?
Just my 2 cents....

We will see on the Doos. Maybe my sources are liars and secertly work for the Canadian mafia.....But I think big Hp and weight shaving are coming from Doo.
I love yamaha's overall fit finsih, durability ect ect. :ORC And yes, they suck as mountain sleds. But what about the fact the the mountain market drives the industry from a engineering and overall "king of the OEM" feel. You would think the marketing prowess of just having a great mt. sled is worth allot.....anyways.
This thread is over as far as I am concerned. I got what I wanted out. I feel like Dr. Phil....except I don't have his $$$ and I have more hair than him. And I got out what I would like from Yamaha...they do read these posts and threads folks. More than they would like to admit .
Yamaha needs a real mt. sled and a few people need to stop peeing Blue and ask for better stuff.

I'd say your sources are wildly optimistic. There will be changes for Doo this year. Some significant, but don't look to see them reinvent the wheel. They have a chassis that works for them. They're just refining it.
But a 460 lb mountain sled that puts out 160 hp? 10 less than the Mach? (and that's just as porky as the Apex). I say again you're in lala land.

I will agree and say it would be nice to see Yamaha have a real mountain sled, but again...the money is in the trail sleds. Yamaha knows that...so thats where it's focus is.
You would think the marketing prowess of just having a great mt. sled is worth allot
Yes, to you it does...but again...your a mountain rider...so it's understandable.
