if you only got that vector down to 550 dry you didn,t loose all the wieght you can, I have a 2003 rx1 with front mount turbo that wieghts 535 dry, you can get that vector down to 500 easy with out a turbo, the turbo set up is 30 lbs itself.

I got the vector uner 530 DRY. Misprint.
It probably weighed 515-520 dry without those heavier add-ons.

..........still heavy and it cost allot of $$$$ to do it. And allot of that stuff was given/sponsored or bought cheap. To do that to a sled for the averae joe is just a waste I think.....unless you pee blue and speak Japanese in your sleep. Maybe then and only then you can justify.
BTW. I WIL be posting Phazer pics when I get mine!! After all I have said.......maybe I pee blue!?

Sorry, but I think the Phazer is going to sell like hotcakes.
Not everyone wants or needs a 150 hp sled. I think a lot of people are looking for something smaller and lighter and the features and technology of the Phazer is going to be really tempting, I think.
I ride in northern Wisconsin and this winter Ive seen quite a few Ski-Doo Freestyles out on the trails.
Look at it this way: What other sled gives you a-arms, 16" of rear suspension travel, fuel injection, electric start, reverse and premium shocks all for under $8000?
As I see it, the Phazer gives you the light weight, fun and affordablility of an entry-level fan-cooled sled with the latest technology on the market.
Im going to hold back buying a Phazer untill '08. I figure I will give Yamaha a year to work any bugs out of the Phazer and that will give me a chance to demo ride a Phazer to make sure that its something that I like.

Lot of assumptions on a sled that you haven't even ridden yet don't you think? Sounds like the Doo talk boys when they said that Apex GT video from overseas beatin a Mach was bogus. No 150 hp sled is gonna beat a 170 hp sled. Then the Apex beat the Mach's 1/4 time in both stock and dealer prep.
I'll judge the sled when I can ride one.

Exactly. On paper the Phazer looks like it'll be a fun little sled. Id want to ride one before I plunked down $7000 on one though.

Oh I think they'll sell. No doubt.
Not the argument. Does Yamaha have a enrty level sled that compete with the 700, the 600s and arguable the 5O0s ???
(the class 500s they claim this Phazer will compete. we will see)
I think the Phazer mt. is a slap in the face to the mountain crowd. the trail guys have what they want....what about moutain sleds???? the age old Yamaha no mt. sled dissappointment continues!!
THERE IS NO MEDIUM WIEGHT SLED OR PRCIE OR HP SLED FROM YAMAHA. The Vector doesn't do it. It is just has heavy as an Apex (darn close) and has the old chassis!! It does compete with anything in the mt. except badly clutched 700s and maybe a fat guy riding a 600....midmarking a semi-steep face.
Apex does in the big boy class. But little $$$ and HEAVY. Still a great sled really...
We need a 120-140 hp sled that 's at a fair price that performs.

Could you perhaps clairfy what you mean by the above statement. As far as I see it, a 700 and 600 isnt an entry-level sled.Alticity-Vector said:Not the argument. Does Yamaha have a enrty level sled that compete with the 700, the 600s and arguable the 5O0s ???
I do see where you are coming from for the most part though. You basically want Yamaha to come out with a feathweight mountain sled, most likely a 2-stroke.

Phazer
The Phazer is exactly what Yamaha needed. I haven't ridden one, but I have sat on and picked up both ends. It is light, and very compact. It looks very well balanced, and it will probably be a ton of fun on most trails. Off the trail I'm sure the 100lbs it's missing, compared to the other four strokes, will make it a blast to jump drifts, and sand pits, etc. The chassis looks well put together and very heavy duty at a closer look. I seating position is still not as cramped in the legs as a REV chassis, but it's just as rider forward.

to clarify (man that statement really is out of wack to read!)
i don't think yamaha has anything that competees with anyone else....really.
The Vector climbs as good as a 500 (M5) artic cat and allot worse than a 600 doo or M6. But yamaha claims it's comparable to 600cc 2 stroke. really! Maybe if you trail ride or flat land race the vector maybe be comparable. that's a big maybe . ....not in the mountain or in any deep-er snow condition (aka A packed trail) for sure.
I just think Yamaha "thinks" thier models are comparable. They are not.
I "think" they think a Apex Mt. competes with a 1000 Doo. It doesn't. An 800 in most cases beats the apex. and a 1000 does the same or worse.
Anyways....examples are endless. And the fact that they promote the phazer as a comparabe to the 500 class 2 stroke is the same. Looks cool, good ergronomics.....bad performance and weight. Same as always.
I wish Yamaha would have made a lightweight 2 stroke. That will never happen now. And a lightwieght 4 stroke....maybe never.....
When will yamaha guys demand a lightwieght sled with decent horsepower??? When will Yamaha horsepower and wieght be comparable to anything else in it's class??? When will yamaha fans stop excusing NOT having power to weight ratios in favor of coll looks nice enigineering ect???????

You do know the weight of a Summit 1k don't you? Last I saw publications were ripping on it and were impressed with the change in performance from the RX-1 to the Apex.

Alticity-Vector why don't you buy a doo and get you rocks of.
As usual there are complainers. I bet you any money that within a coupe years all Yamaha's will run the new body style and there will be more power, for now I order one for my girlfriend.
In a way it is good to have nay sayers like you , that is why I bought a RX1 a few years ago, after a few mods it will run with any 900.
I will do the same with the Phazer and have a lot of fun with it instead of complaining.

The point that alticity is trying to make is that it seems like yamaha bills their moutain sleds as the ultimate in their class, while in reality the weight issues make them also rans. Most everyone I know is not riding a stock rx-1 mtn. I am a little peeved at the time and effort (not to mention the money) I have put into my 03 to get it to perform the way it does. That being said, I would not go back to a 2 stroke. Since I haven't riden a new summit 800, I can't compare it to the apex. To me the apex is the sled the Rx-1 should have been 4 years ago.
The phazer is an entry level sled and should be regarded as such. Yes, people are going to dump a bunch of money into it to make it something more, but it hits the target intended by yamaha. The best part of the deal is that yamaha is committed (at least for the reasonable future) to building performance 4 strokes. As long as there is a demand from the customers for light weight equipment, they will try to deliver. Other manufacturers are trying to catch up with the exception of bombardier. What happens if the government decides to ban 2 strokes on public lands? This is hypothetical but given what happened in Yellowstone, not too far fetched. As long as there is competition for our dollar, yamaha will continue to try and build the best high performance 4 strokes out there and not resort to BNG year after year.

I have read the articles AND RODE a 1000. An apex won't beat it. Nice to see Yamaha "has made chages", but it only changes and compares itself to itself....

I bet you money that you will wait like most folks for the MM to be an 800....or the Srx to be a 900. It never happened. Why is it gong to change now. It's yamaha's MO. You'll wait a couple of years...then ten.
"Alticity-Vector why don't you buy a doo and get you rocks of." I have doo and I do get my rocks off!
I WANT A REAL MOUNTAIN SLED THAT I DON'T NEED TO MOFD TO RUN WITH OTHER FOLKS. Hopefully you'll be anaysayers like me and maybe we'll get one.
