Thinking about buying my son a 2014 or 2015 Phazer XTX but it would be for trail riding mainly. Just wondering if anyone with trail riding experience would comment on...Handling? Stability? Ride quality? Thanks!

well, i made an 09 rtx into an xtx. ridden it in muni on the grades and big sweeper trails as well as the tight stuff we have at home.

it is not a long legged sled but man is it fun to throw around. on the one i had, it had curve xs skis for better floatation as we do do off trail with it at home. i have ridden sleds with tuners on trail they can be good but if it gets soft they can be bad. i had no fear running up to its top speed and holding it on the trails. it takes more body english to ride it hard than my apex's do. ride comfort was pretty good considering that i had the stiff valved rtx shocks on it.

as an added bonus, the dang thing floats like a rabbit in the deep snow and pulls the front end up very easily.

My MTX is basically an XTX (built it before yamaha did). Only difference is mine has MTX skies instead of the tuners. It's a "rider active" sled and it rewards those who move around on the seat and lean into corners. They tend to lift the inside ski on corners fairly easy but shortening the upper ball joint a bit makes it far more predictable. It can and will run 70mph all day long with zero complaints, fuel range is only ~100-110 miles on all of them except the 07' which had a larger tank.

Stock skis absolutely garbage. I didn't know how bad they were til I put Skidoo pilots on them.

100% transformed the sled

I rode a Phazer MTX enough to know that it absolutely eats up rough trails. Yah you have to ride it like a dirt bike, but you can ride it like a dirt bike
If he is the type of rider that wants to sit and just lean, he might not like. It gives great feedback, but you have to respond and give it the right input to ride it well.
