Is there much snow off trail?Have they been grooming ?I'm from Springdale.

I don't go off trails too much this time of year with the machine I have but seems to be about 2' of snow in the woods - not much yet for riding off trail. The trails were groomed to Baie Verte on Saturday but conditions were soft. As far as I know, the trails have only been groomed once this season and I guess you have heard the groomer is stuck in a bog down Robert's Arm way. Do you know any details on that? It could be a poor year for us.

How do you like the Venture-Lite? I was thinking that this would be a good sled for the wife. Do you think there's enough room for one or two kids under ten along with an adult?

I would suggest you do a search on here for details re the VL/MP sleds as there as been a fair bit posted. The VL is a bit on the heavy side but it depends on what your wife is used to driving. To get the best handling you have to ride somewhat aggressively - not the typical two-up touring sleds that everyone liked for their laid back cruising comfort. And it handles way better with one rider than two but I guess that is common to most sleds. As for the roominess, yes I think there should be room for two extra (sometimes I have to check to see if my wife is still behind me there is so much space) but a seat strap may be needed for the middle child. BTW, ski-doo used to (maybe still does) sell a sled with an extra seat that could be added on for the 3rd occupant.

all the best,

How do you like the skis?

The skis:

Yes I do like the skis as they provide a good improvement in handling on the trail, and better flotation off the trail, and thus more enjoyment.

- Steering effort is greatly reduced as the wide ski stays on top and does not track very much at all; and if you do get in another ski groove it is quite easy to steer out - before with the OEM skis I would have to wrestle with the handlebars to get out of a track. So, even though this is a more aggressive ski the steering effort is easier.
- Cornering is much improved and would be much better if it was not for the tippy nature of the VL but that is not a ski problem. It seems like I even get less ski lift in the corners because the inside ski grabs better and helps to bring it around the corner.
- Flotation is much much improved and you can actually see the front of the ski staying up on the snow and we have had really soft conditions here this year. It gives much more confidence when you go off trail. And you don't get that sinking nose dive to such an extent in snow and you can actually steer in the snow. Don't get me wrong this is still not a nimble machine and you can't throw it around but your Phazer should be better in that regard.
- Much more fun to ride on ungroomed trails as well because you have better control and flotation. Having said that, these are the first aftermarket skis I have used so I am only comparing them with the originals.
That's about all the positives I can think about right now. I have not really had any issues with the skis from a performance point of view yet. Oh yes, they will cut to and fro in crusty conditions. Time will show if these skis are durable or not as they do not seem very sturdy. Maybe someone else can comment on how well they wear.

Trust this is helpful,

I have Powderhounds on my Attak. 3,000 plus miles, with about 50/50 on and offtrail. I run 8" Bergstrom Triplepoints with his 3/8 Skisavers and the front of the ski rubber shimmed 3/8". Also toed IN 1/4". hte only wear I have is from skinning them when pulling in the trailer. They flex when climbng small logs or ridges. I am NOT gentle on my equipment LOL, and am extremely impressed with these skis. All the point's mentioned above line up with my experience. I have C@A XT's on my viper and they steer WAY heavier than the Slydogs. Much heavier ski as well. Hope this helps in some way ;)!

Viper_Dave,
Thanks for the info - nice to hear they are proving to be durable. I must say, the easier steering effort is definitely a bonus with these skis - it wasn't my reason for getting new skis and is not what I was expecting at all - pleasant surprise.
BTW, why did you shim the front of the ski rubber? Wouldn't that make them dart and make it more difficult to get out of another ski track? And what effect does the toe-in adjustment have? How much different is that adjustment than the stock set-up?

Thanks,

When I bought mine 3 yrs. ago, Scott Bergstrom told me to shim the front. Thought he was crazy, BUT, once again, he was right. The ski rubber they supplied at that time made the ski run heel down. I have shimmed LOT's of sleds, and this is the first time I've seen this. you want the front of the carbide, not the wearbar, to be slightly elevated. Mine were about 3/8" up before shimming. My understanding is that they now supply a different ski rubber, but check your's. And again, toeing in seemed wrong,BUT, again, he was right. It is the opposite of what you set most skiis to. Started 1/4" out and it darted. Tried parralell, and it darted. In 1/4", and it doesn't dart. Any other questions, just ask!!
