Pilot skis


IMO not a whole lot better than the Yamaha skis. They may turn with slightly less effort. It took woodys duallies to get my machine settled down to where it doesn't dart much. You didn't mention why you're considering them. Some on here love snow trackers. I would probably try those on oem skis before I would start swapping.
 
I ran pilot 6.9 on my 06 apex for a season.
Overall i thought they worked better than the stock skis, and the stock skis with woodys dually carbides.
My issue with them was that i felt there was too much inconsistency with the pilots in different trail conditions.
I felt that anything other than a hard packed trail and the front end was loose.
They did not hold the corners in loose snow at all, And i could not steer worth a crap in the deep stuff.
I switched to simmons flexi skis and love them.
I have also run usi triple threats and liked them a lot but they were hard to get set up right and are super super aggressive.
Your arms will hate you but the sled really carves up the trails.

Skis are really subjective and dependent on set up and riding style what works for 1 apex might not work for another.
Everyone has different expectations and opinions on handling

I kind of agree with the post above about the snow trackers. Most reviews i have seen are positive when using stock skis. If i didnt have hundreds invested in aftermarket skis i too would be giving the snowtrackers a try.

Pilots worked really well on pre 2011 Apex's using SkiDoo's rubber bumper (stopper) that goes between the ski and the spindle. I didn't like the Pilots on my 2011 SE. In 2011 Yamaha changed the ski mounting position and modified their rubber bumper (stopper). I couldn't stop my 2011 from darting and took them off.....
 
My skis are stock at the moment,they are not the tuner skis as the sled is a 2012 model,so I am weighing out the differences between the tuners and pilots,so far I am hearing the tuners are OK but the pilots are better.Are those skis going to make any positve noticable difference ?
 
I like the pilot skis. I've been running them for about 4 seasons with dual carbide. Much better than the stock skis. If I was going to change I would go with the Simmons flex ski as RTX above said. I have spoken to people with them that love them. I have an 06 ER.
 
I run 5.7's on my vector. They do push in loose snow no doubt but I have zero darting and a lot less steering effort than my stock skis with 6.5" singles on them. For hard trail riding my stock skis with Roetin XPR-1 6.5" cornered a lot better. If you do go with the Pilots make sure you drill the outside runner and add 4" carbides in addition to the 6" carbide on the inside runner or else the outside of the ski will wear.

I went from OEM to Pilot's I bought from Pioneer (Bruce) and went back to OEM with duallys. Works better for my conditons here I think. They are going up for sale.

I love my pilot 5.7s, light steering too. I use woodys dual 4in carbides. I ride groomed trails mostly
