During a long ride my sled developed a plastic sounding ticking coming from the right side of the sled towards the front. It's really noticeable at about 15 mph and as you get on the gas it eventually disappears. And it's not the cam tensioner as I replaced that last year. I went to look at my track and found the middle rear idler bearing missing so I replaced the wheel and added a 4th wheel in the rear plus put on new hyfax. I took it for a ride and the ticking is still there so I noticed the plastic tips on the front of the rails were loose from the rivets wearing. Would it make sense this is where my "ticking" is coming from. Also checked the chain case and adjusted the tension but the noise is still present!

Yup! And if you don't watch them closely, the rivets will eventually fail and the caps will fall off........and that opens the possibility of catastrophic track failure. I lost a couple of them off of my RS Nytro so my mechanic finally drilled small holes in the rails and reinstalled them with Loc-Tite'd bolts. Now they're not coming off unless we really want them to. Good Luck!

i'm doing rail caps on both of our 2010 vectors, already have 5x25mm bolts as my dealer suggested instead of rivits. is the shaft for the limiter strap a common size that i could put 2 idler wheels on it to prevent rail cap wear?

Funny you mention that. I just noticed a ticking yesterday. I fixed a bogey wheel and took it for a test ride. While riding I heard the ticking sound at slow speeds. It's my wifes sled and I don't ride it much so I'm glad you mentioned it. I'll do it today before we head out tommorrow for a ride.

X2 on this. I did the exact same thing to my '06 Apex.

Is that the chain case?
What do you think caused that?

I am thinking somehow the bottom gear bolt became loose and pounded itself thru the side of the case.

I checked the 2010 Vector LTX and there are 2 rivets holding the tip on and they don't look loose. I left them for now. My Attak had only one rivet and was loose. Put bolts threw of course.

The key to making those tips stay on and not wobble is the silicone. Great tip for the tip.
