I know ski-doo has the market on the modular helmets but I just found a Polaris one for sale in my town for 100.00 and the colors match my sled perfectly. I used a ski-doo one a few years back and didn't care for the breath box, the polaris doesn't look to have that, it's more like a conventional helmet for the breath area but flips up like the ski-doo and has the sun shield. It also comes with a new second shield but doesn't say if it's heated or not. Anyone have any input on them?

I had a few Polaris Mod. helments , back maybe 10 years ago for the kids. Polaris seem to change things quite often. I went to get a new set of shields for them, electric or non-heated and no parts were available? Tried E-Bay, etc, etc, and could not find anything for the last 2 years. So Last week I threw them away!! Were nice helments, not worthless without being able to get parts for them. Get the model #of what you are looking at and go see if it is still current. Good Luck, Dan

So I flat out asked the guy if the helmet fogs and he said yes at about -20 and he was selling it to buy a new helmet with a heated shield. Other then the BRP modular helmets what's a good choice?

the polaris modular is actually a CKX helmet. I have the CKX with an electric shield and i like it. has a good deflector seals well and is comfortable.

ski-doo/brb modular helmets is lazer helmets. so you can get the modular 1 and 2 from laser. i just bought the brp one and took off the brp stickers, best helmet i have tried.

I stopped in at UP North Sports and ended up buying a Gmax 54s. It's a dual lens visor and also has the pull down tinted visor. Basically just like the BRP modular but without that breath box that gets full of frozen moisture. It's even got a Led light built into the back. I never seen a Gmax in person before and thought that they might be kinda cheap in quality but from what if seen of it so far I'm very impressed. It retailed for 205.00 and got it on sale for 20.50 off and then they had a gift certificate deal going with a local radio station and I saved another 33.00 bucks. As long as it doesn't fog I think I will be very happy. Colors match my jacket better then the Polaris one too.

So what I think you're saying is... I like this knock off helmet because of its color and the fact that it doesn't have the critical piece of equipment to keep my mask from icing up... You do understand that moisture not being expelled from your helmet ends up as frost on your visor...
You have three options...
1. Return you new helmet and get a Lazer/BRP modular helmet... I have had a mod 1 (they run a bit small so I gave to my GF to use after a couple of seasons) I upgraded to a mod 2 version (again sizing is a bit on the small side) or get the BVS2 which I have used (never fogged up) but never owned (because I didn't like the way it functioned)
2. Return you new helmet and go open face with goggles... Brrr
3. Or source a heated shield for the new helmet and ride with a wire coming from out of you sled
MY BRP modular helmet was the best thing I have ever purchased for snowmobiling!!!

They were about the same... Never fogged up... I mean never ever ever fogged up... I love to ride on those -20 day/nights because those conditions make other peoples helmets ice up... Which leaves the trails empty and all to myself
Just learned mod 1 helmet replacement parts are hard to find... I had no problem sourcing extra parts for the mod 2

I placed a want add for a ski-doo modular and got a response on my way to the ski-doo dealer. The guy had a used twice bvs2 for 350.00. Since I was almost to the dealer I wanted to check things out and ended up buying a mod2 for 320.00 out the door. The dealer didn't have any bvs2 to look at but he showed me the catalog picture of it. I didn't realize it opened different then the mod2 and wasn't sure if I would have liked that setup. I used the mod2 at -13 with absolutely no fogging, can't say that about the gmax. In all fairness the gmax breath box didn't touch my face it came about 1/8" short, so of coarse it's going to fog. It's funny how a used 100.00 helmet turned into a 320.00 new hemet.
When I borrowed a mod 1 in the past the guy didn't give me a felt pad for the air box and that's why I didn't like it. I could pour moisture out of it and then when the temps dropped I could hear ice bouncing inside of it. With the mod2 and felt insert it was much better. Still not a really comfortable helmet but not fogging is worth it.
