Okay guys,
Please don't get mad that I started this poll even though some of you have stated that shimming and carbides work as far as fixing the darting issue. I just really want to be sure before I spend the time and money on the stock skis instead of just selling them while they are still "new". If shimming and carbides will do it, I'm all for not spending the money on new skis. My primary concern is the darting issue. My SXr did it real bad, so I bought Simmons, not knowing about the shim trick. The rest of my riding group with SXrs and stock skis really complain about it, but they are too lazy or cheap to do anything about it.
As far as how well it will corner with shimmed/carbided stock skis, my wife rides faster that all the women I know, but it's not like we are racing each other through the corners.

I went through this last year, My wife was the primary rider of the APEX and I did the shim trick and carbides to a set of new 05 skis I had laying around, I think we went maybe a mile before I had to start hearing how the front end was all over , etc, I drove it for awhile and it seemed ok but not great, So after that ordeal I went and bought some after market skis (c & a AD's) ( I have always preferred c & a's, thats just me) and took the wife out again, Guess what no complaining!!! My wife drives/ rides pretty much the same as me (Full throttle, I taught her well lol) Anyways I went through doing all the shimming and new carbides for nothing, it helpes a little but compaired to the after market skis the shim trick sucked for our riding style IMO

Your poll should have one more option..
Shimming does not eliminate the darting completely..BUT... It does help alot.... Id say if you toe in is very good with the shims you get ride of about 80-% of the darting..

The first 500 miles were on stock skis and carbides without the shim and the sled was all over the place. I was really scared I was going to hit a tree or a passing sled. Yes, it was that bad. Installed a set of Bergstrom Triple Points with a 6" carbide plus the shims. Steering is very easy and no more darting at all. Still have some push in the corners but I believe I can dial that out with some suspension adjustments.
The more I read comments about this topic the more I believe it comes down to rider preference in terms of what is acceptable.

I do not get all these darting complaints. I put 2,974 miles last year on my Attak and never experienced a darting problem. If anything it was the opposite. I had pretty bad pushing problems until I installed a set of Woody's dualy 6" carbides. I also adjusted my rear transfer rod quite a bit and was able to get the sled to handle much better. As for darting, never experienced it. (Rode in the UP of Michigan for all of those miles under various conditions.)
