It is not just the lug height. I have a 1" fully clipped on mine and it still eats sliders. The 1" got rid of most of the track howl and excess vibration.And I agree there is no need for 1-1/4" lug for trail riding.

I'd rather put up with the consequenses than go to a 1" track or less. My last 2 sleds had .750" lugs and they really SUCKED. They were exceptionally fishy on freshly groomed trails, but got a little better once the trails were packed down and worn again. I'm very happy to have a more agressive track finally.

You're funny. (kinda) I think the fastest I've had my sled was 27 and that got too hairy for me so I pulled over and threw some snow on my hyfax.

Seriously, I don't profess to be Jimmy "Blaze" or anything, but we ride very hard on our trips. We try to sled from Wed thru Fri as the speeds are higher due to lack of traffic and we save the weekends for trips with our wives. One of my favorite things about this sled is the amazing pull it has coming out of the corners, and part of that is the drivetrain and part of it is the Ripsaw. Out in the powder (although rare) a sled of this weight needs an aggressive track.

There are very many members that have many more miles on their hyfax than I do, but the ones with problems are naturally more outspoken.

This has to do with slider wear so here is what I did with last weeks trip to Old Forge with my wifes Vector. Her slider wear the first 100 miles on her sled was crazy. Wore down more than halfway and more than 3/4 in spots. My RTX 184 miles slider just about gone. Before the trip replaced my sliders and added SLP wear pads on both sleds. Last week we rode in all coditions from great to minimal to rough roads w/ min. cover (10 miles at least). Last day came back to Hotel min. snow mud etc. because of melting conditions. No slider wear!! Mine still look new and my wifes don't show any signs of new wear. If those sleds were ever going to overheat that was the week. Granted only 326 miles but still impressed for only $20.00 per sled for pads. Just what I found. Hope it helps.

All you guys that are burning up sliders must be runing the track too tight. Yamaha sets them up too tight at the dealer. The first thing I do when I pick up a new sled from the dealer is loosen up the track.

Since the installation of the Kimpex/Polaris wheel kit to replace my Yamaha RS Venture wheels, and coupled with the installation of marginal snow wheels, I have 7,450 miles on this set of hyfax (slides).

I probably have another 1,000 miles left. The Kimpex wheels are 1/8" OD larger than Yamaha wheels. They really work well.

Kimpex wheel Part# KX 41166 6 wheels (4) inside and (2) outside.

Some machining is required.

They also help reduce the track howl noise issue.

Man, Hondo if I could get 7500 miles in already, I would probably look for other ways to increase slide lift too! Way to go, you horse!

As it is, getting only a couple thousand in during 2 seasons and keeping the original set of hyfax is ok with me so far. It is truly amazing reading about the huge range of hyfax wear on this site, all from folks with identical sleds! I do agree that if the wear is at the front, try loosening the track. I have zero wear in this area.

The wheel set up is the ticket for both hyfax wear and track howl reduction.

My wear has always tapered to the rear.

Currently have 10,281 miles on this set of hyfax.

This set of hyfax was installed at 1,750 miles

Total miles on the sled 12,001

Total miles this year: 6,221

Hyfax still have 1000 miles remaining but will be changed prior to next season.

Hondo, when you say "Some machining is required", exactly what do you mean? What needs to be machined?

The Kimpex wheel bolts are larger, so the slide rails need to drilled .020 larger.

The Kimpex wheels work so well for me that they will be on my new Attak when I pick it up next season

I'm on my second set of slide...firts set lasted 800 miles second set 200 miles...little hard pack condition. Stopped at a dealer to see if we could figure out the problem. My rear buggy wheels were worn out from riding over the studds. While the sled is on the ground I could turn the back furtherst plastic wheels without any friction from the track...meaning those wheels were taking no weight from the slides making them heat up and melt at hight speed even in 3-4 inches of snow. installed 2 new wheels ...no more slide wear... after 800 more miles.

Hey berge75, could you tell me what the part # or the year of the Skidoo sled that you got the wheel support off of?

I have a 96 Skidoo and tried one of the mounts from it and it fit as well. So, I went to the dealer to order a couple. They were $23 cdn each! A far cry from your $7 mounts. I figure that maybe they were different mounts and am curious to know, for the next time.
