Possible group buy for LED safety lights.

How bright are the leds? The Lumens(brightness) are that of the strobe lights used on State Vehicles. In our 2 year R/D we had to try to find a balance between day and night riding. I suggest taking a look on the site at the pictures of the SRX in the snow and the grizzly4x4 with the head lights on. In the hardest conditions which is facing the CSS into the sun on clear sky days the CSS is still clearly seen but the projection range is not detected quite as far.(Aprox 200 feet)

Jim,Here in the U.S a light can be displayed forward only if used for safety. We used the universal colors in this product to keep the system easily understood. The universal/standard yellow is caution, green means clear to go is used here and in Canada as well. It's not legal to alter factory lights or attach colored lenses in most states. I will look into the Ontario regulations.Thanks.

I am on my way to Vt. for tomorrows VAST safety meeting to speak with the governor about this system and other related topics. I will mention that this site has been trying help out. I will be back some time Wednesday and will get on the site to answer any further questions. Thank you for interest.

Welcome Chris glad you decided to join the site. I believe the best way to proceed with the group buy is we will let you handle the details of it.

Per the Ontario Snow Vehicles Act.

Every vehicle to which this section applies must have,

(a) at least one head lamp on the front of the vehicle showing a white or amber light only; and

(b) one tail lamp on the rear of the vehicle showing a red light only. O. Reg. 184/01, s. 1.

So no green light allowed! I cant see them making a stink if one rider is green and working with group for a safer ride. I think the ticket writers will look the other way on this one.

I think you are right Rod just do some fast talking about safety if somebody hassles you. It might take this season to get over the hump on these

Fffffast tttttalking? Ttttthat's easy ffor..... yyou to say. :tg:

I've never had much luck with that fast talking thing but I'm going to put one of these on my sled anyway.

Fast talking does not work with trail wardens in Ontario. Hopefully they can get it straightened out with the OFSC. Not as simple as you say.

I think these lights can be a good idea, but should be cleared up through the legal system before hand instead of a court room. Sounds stupid, but unfortunatly we have law officers that like to throw the book at us. I must say 80% have common sence, but the other 20% can pose to be a big problem. Its unfortunate to have officers like this on the trail sytem, but it’s a reality which I have already experienced this.

Not to discourage the idea for these lights, just think clarification on paper can clearup any possible future conflicts.

Safety

Hello TY forum users. Just got back the Vt. Safety counsel meeting. It was a big step in the right direction. The entire safety counsel purchased units. You will also see the CSS being used on State/local and federal patrol sleds in the North East Kingdom this season. We will now be branching out to all other saftey counsels across the states. We will be attending and featured at the 2006 International Snowmobile Conference in June! There may be insurance discounts offered if you own a CSS, as soon as the 06/07 riding season!
