For those of you who are going to or have installed the Power Commander III it is important that you set the throttle position values especially at the closed (0%) throttle position. Basically you need to set the values so the PCIII knows what throttle position value, or reading, is fully closed. In the example below the closed position is lower then the current position. The current throttle position is actually closed (at idle) so the software thinks the throttle is partially open giving a false reading. Mine was reading 10% throttle position at idle. The adjustments that I made at the 2% and 5% throttle position wouldn't have been applied to the map because the map was always starting at 10%. Just an FYI
Thanks
Please dont be afraid to share other help you might have with this thing.
A few of us are embracing technology and are trying to learn these new systems.
Those Dobeck boxes are nice, but the PCIII and the RB3 are way advanced, comparetively speaking.

A little "how to" on some of the PCIII items that I did the other day.

Does the sled have to be running to calibrate the throttle position or just the 9VOLT hooked up?

You need 9 volt hooked up and then turn the key on for the sled. It doesn't have to be running.

I'm not sure if Allen is saying to hook up the 9v battery that you use if the PCIII isn't connected to the sled already before you do this adjustment, but the 9v battery isn't needed. You just hook up your lap top to the Power Commander, open software and turn on the key without starting the sled.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CALIBRATE THE TPS WHEN THE SLED IS RUNNING.
If not, you will not get 100% TPS. I have proved this on 2 bikes and my APEX.
The APEX only gets 97% at WOT when you calibrate it with the sled OFF.
Simple to do with the sled running. Can be done on the stand. Idle it, and with your laptop (or LCD) go the TPS calibrate, whack the throttle full, and now it is set.

I did my adjustments according to Dynojets tutorial for the proper adjustment procedure. They claim unless your WOT throttle positon reads less then 95% it isn't necessary. FYI

As you wish Iceman!
However, at 95% TPS you WILL NOT GET THE FULL VALUES FOR 100% TPS as it is written on your map.

Here are some snippets I made elsewhere lastyear......
I just bought the LCD. With my key on, engine OFF, my TPS calibration shows zero to 100% (either on my LCD or my laptop).
So, remember, I have rode all winter with it set up as per 'key on, engine OFF'. <<with NO LCD!!
HOWEVER, once the sled is running, and I am blasting down the lake at WOT, the LCD was reading only 97%!!!!
So, if I had added, for example, 4 degrees of timing at 10500rpm and 100% TPS, I would in fact be only getting about 3 deg extra timing!! And less fuel also.
I asked Dynojet about this phenomenon. Their reply was to simply RUN the sled and go into calibration mode and click RESET, then whack the throttle quickly, then click OK. Upon doing this, I still saw 100% TPS with the key on, ign OFF, and I now see 100% TPS when running the snowmachine at WOT!
Here is a quote from an old email from Curt at Dynojet....
"You can use the reset throttle position function in the power commander software and it should take care of the problem. Just click the reset button in the throttle position window, then snap the throttle wide open very quickly and let go. Obviously the sled may try to pull away, but if you do it fast enough, it will only move a foot or so. then click OK. that should do it. Let me know if you have more questions. "
Trust me, your sled won't move an inch...the ECU is so slow it is still trying to figure what just happened!
Here is a bike map. Take 10750rpm for example, at 100% is -13% fuel....but you only get 95%!! That's only gonna get you between the 80% and the 100% TPS value..which is about -11 or -12...more critical when using ADDED or Subtracted timing (as I do with my snowmobile with nitrous or on the motor).
This would or may be more critical if you need to ADD fuel....
When I spray nitrous, 90hp worth, I pull timing. I set the map for say -4 degrees at 100%....unless I map for -4 at 80% also, I won't get -4 degrees at WOT when the TPS values are only 97%.
How can that not be IMPORTANT?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let alone the fuel settings being off!!!!! The sled is still spraying a sh1tload of nitrous!
Here are the instructions for those without LCD...if it hasn't been posted yet.
Setting the TPS is simple....CLICK RESET, quickly snap and release the throttle, and CLICK OK. DONE.

So when you do this "CLICK RESET, quickly snap and release the throttle, and CLICK OK. DONE." Is that reseting the closed and open as well?

Johnathon,
I called Dynojet regarding enabling the fuel accelerator. When I had the tech on the phone I asked about setting the throttle position. I was told, as the instructions state, that it wasn't important to calibrate the WOT position and that the sled didn’t have to be running. I’m just posting what I was told true or not. If anyone has any questions you can call them at this technical support number 1-800-992-4993.
