Is there a relay by the starter. My sled has failed to start on two occasions and I could hear clicking from underneath the airbox. I heated the area with a hair dryer and it started right up?

The fuel pump runs and when I turn the key I hear a click down by the starter. I heat the area with a hair dryer and it starts.

It helps if we know what kind of sled it is. Down by the battery there is a starter relay. My buddy had his replaced the other day, it had gotten moisture in it and was full of the green death. I think that u have moisture in yours and when u warm it, then it operates.

I forgot to add it is an 06 Apex RTX. Sounds like my problem. I don't ahve time to change it before I leave to Quebec, but I am parking it in a heated garage so I hope I am good to go!

I have an 06 Attak with the exact same issue, I ordered a starter relay but when I got it apart the relay I was given was not the same part that was by the battery. I was given the largest of the relays by the left foot well. If we could get a part number for the starter relay that would be great.

Did your Attack start once it was warm enough or did the relay fail all together?

once I got it warm it will start, if I go in for lunch and come out it will start but if you let it sit for more than 2-3 hours and it is below 10 degrees no crank no start, fuel pump cycles guages sweep. The starter relay listed above is that next to the battery where the + and - terminals come together with the main fuse? This link may help but I still am confused about where the relay is exactly.

Yes it is. Look at the Port Yamaha fiche (site sponsor) Electrical 2 drawing and u will see it there.

Thank you I just found it, which I would have done this before I took the sled apart to find out I had the wrong part. Its Ok because it was good practice and I was in a heated garage with a cold beveridge.

We had this happen this weekend. 5 out of 6 did this. No start. It was about 2 out and one of the guys went out and started the sleds they all started all 6 of them to let them warm up. after about 10 mins or so we weren't ready to ride so we shut them off. Went we went out 20 mins later mine wouldnt start corse I got some flack and everyone new what was wrong but me. So we took off the left side and took out the relays and brought them inside to warm up. About 5 mins later and reinstalled them and started right up. Low and behold when the other guys came out to start theres, nothing. Same thing only this time took out the heat gun and waved a little heat on the relay and presto! Started right up. The fuel pump relay must get a little condinsation in there and wont let in make contact to run the fuel pump. Its the first relay on the outside clutch side. I think that if it happened on the trail some where you could take nd put it in your hand to warm it up so it will start. Just a though.

starter relay creates a no crank no start
fuel pump relay creates a crank no start
both are relay issues the fuel pump relay is in the left foot well and the starter relay is next to the battery under the airbox

What years had the problematic (condensation freezing) relays?

Did Yamaha correct this yet? Do I need to worry about my '07 Apex GT?

Bluedave- 06 and some 07, most of the prblems seem to be with the fuel pump relay which is easy to replace and or warm up being on the left foot well, the starter relay is under the air box and harder to replace and or warm up unless you have a heater or blowdryer handy with 120v by your sled.
