I polished my tunnel yesterday. Alot of work, but turned out looking awsome. Was wondering what i can use to seal and protect the shiny aluminum? I sure dont want to have to polish it after every ride. Thanks

You won't have to... Just every other ride!!! Just kidding. Mine is polished also and it seems to last the season. If you have a chance to bring the sled into a heated area once and awhile clean it off and wipe it down with a dry towel.. No standing water.

I did hit it with meguires wax after polishing. Hopefully that helps some

Eagle 1 Nevr-Dull. You can find it at Auto Parts stores. But should be inside and warm. Looks great what did you polish it with? Is that a 1.75 Backcountry track. If so what studs did you use and how many?

Blue Max metal polish. 1.75 Backcountry track cut down to 1.5. I don't remember exactly how many 1.625 inch studs i used but I put three per row all the way around. Extreme Max studs and backers, stud boy tall nuts. Thanks for the info on the never dull

I also beefed up my tunnel protectors so the studs would not hit the x-up

Thanks!

What's the easiest way to cut the track down a 1/4"? I have a Vector so I should be good on the tunnel protector. At least I don't have X-up.

After trying a tire cutter, sawzall, and cutoff wheel. I ended up using a 1.5 inch piece if steel as a gauge, and cut with a razor knife. I changed the razorblade often. Razor knife worked great. I hung the back of my sled off the ground so I could just sit on a stool and cut without bending over

This is my first 4S sled. Is there any concern of oil getting in the cylinders causing hydro locking if I hang the rear bumper 3 or 4 feet off the ground like I did with my 2S when changing track or rear suspension? I do realize these are dry sump Motors. But I have seen some mention of rollover valves on here in other forums.

I have never had, or have heard of any problems doing that. 2s or 4s.

I have left my Yamaha 4strokes hang for a week while I studded over two weekends without issues

Thanks for the great help guys!

Nice job polishing! I've done mine twice since new in 5 years and it never came out that good. The wax might help.. or other coating but could be a beatch getting it to polish up that nice in the future if any of it stays on.

You bring up a good point. The smell test tells me since I cleaned many auto parts over the years that Nevr-Dull has a solvent in it. So Brake Clean might be necessary before the next polish job. All I know is Nevr- Dull does a great job of removing oxidation. It comes in an old school can. Lift the lid off and there is fiber like wadding that you tear off and start wiping or rubbing with. It makes an unpolished tunnel look good.
